I'm calling Bullshit on this one. How stupid does this clown think we are?
There are several pictures in the link that can be enlarged. Check out the teeth. They are all mammalian, probably from a either a wild or a feral hog(s). The canines would have been made from the tusks and tushes. The general shape of the head looks porcine as well.
This preposterous product of a clumsy taxidermist sold on ebay for something over $600. Go figger...

Is it being sold as a creation or a legit creature? 600$ doesnt seem to bad I bet it took forever to make. |

According to the text (you have to scroll up in the link), it was touted as the real deal in LARGE print. And so it's a total rip and not a very good one. I've seen better jack-a-lopes being sold at a convience store in OK. It is wonderfully ugly though, and I've got to give it some points for that much, anyway.

No, it's not being sold as a "real" fish, except in letting the readers think so:I guarantee that this creatures flesh, teeth, jaw and skull are REAL 100% once living, organic flesh and bones. You'll note the seller says nothing about it all being on the same living creature at the same time.
Dig into his comments to find out more:I will be listing a 5 foot long REAL mermaid next...come back to see her!
...
Most of what is real about reality is created by ones beliefs. For instance many believe in UFOs and Aliens from other planets. While others do not believe in either. Who is right? Who is wrong? Both are equal since reality depends on what one belives. In my reality sea monsters exist today and in the past.
...
I would donate such a creature to a museum, except I need the money. This is my only job, sea monster and mermaid dealer. This sea monster would fit in perfectly with a Ripley's Believe It or Not museum. I hope that they would bid. But it seems they only want items that are 50 or more years old. I could fill up a museum with sea monsters & mermaids, many of them would be 6 feet long or more. Imagine The Museum of Mermaids & Sea Monsters, tourist would love it.All I need is the financial backing. What you see here at this auction is just the tip if the monster iceberg!
...
the fish skin, includying all fins, are real. 100%, once living organic fish skin. The teeth, the jaw bone and the skull are also 100% real, once living organic calcium. That is a fact, not an opinion.
...
Lee Unkrich, a Director at Pixar Animation bought one of my real mermaids. So, he's building sea monsters out of real animal parts, and because beliefs (for him) dictate what's real, then they're all real. |

Yeh, I picked up on that, too. It's all the same, sad thing: a rip off of the gullible. He tries talk it up pretty well, but this one is downright flagrant and insulting to the intelligence.
I wonder how long he's had his Acme Junior Deluxe Taxidermy Kit. I wonder if the family dog is still irritating the neighbors. I wonder what the 'mermaid' looks like -- the top half of one of those neighbors, mayhap?

The funny thing to me, (and I know there have been weird animals with big mouths,) is that the jaws and teeth seem very large compared to what tiny room there would be left for a stomach and intestines. |

Yes, there is no way it could have evolved like that, therefore proving that Jehovah exists and the bible is 100% truthful. |

It's worse than you think! In order to kill food, it would have to be able to gape nearly 180 degrees. Trust me, that mandible just ain't to the job.
The rear teeth are obviously from a mammalian omnivore, likely porcine, and probably came from several jaws judging by their regularity in size. "What a maroon!" as certain, famous fiction was known to say.
I'd like to have it -- it's kind of appealing in a binge-drinking sort of way -- but not to the tune any six hundred dollars.

An on-line acquaintance of mine, a gentleman named Doug Higley, makes creatures much like this which he sells for use in the sideshow industry. His are very well made, and very expensive. I don't think the one on eBay is his, but it does appear to be a fairly well made gaff. Check out Doug's Grind Show Site to see some of his work.quote Doug Higley's grindshow.com: A Single-O 'Grind Show' is like having your own little sci-fi movie show, except, you are presenting your 'story' LIVE...But it is of the same purpose, to entertain and create a sense of wonder in the viewer and for some maybe a bit of nostalgia as well. I am an artist and these are my art works. I do not advise they be shown as 'real', quite the opposite, there is no need to lie about false reality anymore than George Lucas needs to lie that Chewbacca is 'real'...nor does Lucas deminish the entertainment value by advertiseing that 'Chewy' is fake either. These ZIBITS are exhibited as STRANGE THINGS, which they are. True Showmen have fun and make a few bucks along the way while entertaining their 'audience'. It is a show tradition going back to the 1600's. The Flea Market and Small Fair being the new Midway.
When these "creatures" are used as a sideshow attraction, presented with the proper bally, the pitchman who owns one can make hundreds of dollars a day. Most of the time the bally will include statements to the effect of, "I'm not willing to say for sure just exactly what this thing is. Once you take a look, you can decide for yourselves." That's the sort of disclaimer which keeps them just on the edge of legal. The seller of this eBay item is using much the same technique by claiming each of the pieces and parts came from a previously living creature, yet not stating specifically that they all came from the same creature. The buyer of the eBay item, even at over $600, could actually make a pretty tidy profit with it if exploited properly.

What an ugly work of a rogue taxidermist!
I don't quite understand your objection to this thing, Filthy, just after you defended as entertaining a "neutral" Bigfoot exhibit at the Idaho Museum of Natural History. Is this thing too unbelievable vs. Bigfoot? To me, in entertainment value alone, this thingie's superior. Both this and Bigfoot relics are hoaxes, and belong only in sideshows.

I don't object to this whatever-it's-supposed-to-be at all; in fact, I rather like it. I object to the misrepresentation. There is no comparison between this and the upcoming Bigfoot exhibit, which is not misrepresented, at least as far as we know.
I don't know what the taxidermists are charging these days, but $600+ still seems a litle steep for this.

Heh, and if they won't accept it, send it off to Dr. Dino and tell him it's magnificent specimen of the rare Piceosaurous mendicanti and it disproves evolution because it's mummified rather than fossilized.
Betcha he'd be on that like slick on a grinnell!

I love this thing! If goldenpalacecasino hadn't already snatched it up (and if I had $600 to spare) I'd buy it for my dad for Father's Day. He's 80 years young and could tell some great fish stories if he had something like this to hang over his mantle.
