quote: The former head of the US Christian Coalition, Ralph Reed, has lost the race to win the Republican nomination for Georgia's lieutenant-governor.
Hopefully this is an indicator of better things to come...

Thanks for that post, pleco. Indeed, I think this can be taken as a rather shockingly vivid portent of what's coming, in terms of the fall of the fundies and neocons.
A quote from your article: quote: His opponent Sen Casey Cagle had highlighted Mr Reed's close ties to powerful lobbyist Jack Abramoff, convicted of fraud and corruption.
Mr Reed has not been charged over the case and denies any wrongdoing.
But his candidacy was viewed as a test of the Abramoff scandal on core Republican voters, correspondents say.
So Abramoff has decisively negative coat-tails in a Republican primary? And being a major fundie didn't save Reed, even in a Southern state? If so, one can only imagine how much impact any association with such a scandal figure would have upon independent and Democratic voters!

Yo:
Here's how the "liberal" incumbent Republican Senator from Rhode Island is doing against his Democratic challenger, according to the latest Rasmussen Report.
Rhode Island Senate: Chafee Now Trailing By Five It doesn't look good for Republican Senator Lincoln Chafee, whose support has gone from bad to worse in the latest Rasmussen Reports election poll of Rhode Island's U.S. Senate race.
Chafee now earns just 41% of the statewide vote and trails Democratic challenger Sheldon Whitehouse by five percentage points. In June, with 44% support, Chafee was a bare two points ahead of Whitehouse; in April he had scraped a three-point advantage.
(Oh, wouldn't it be wonderful if George War Bush had to contend with two houses with Dem majorities in the waning stretch of his miserably failed presidency?) OY! |
