So when you said, "Apology accepted" to Kil, was that sarcasm?

No.

Must have been facetiousness, then, since if Kil never apologized, then your acceptance of his apology must have been a joke.

In all facetiousness, Dave, I'm sure what you think about the whole matter is important to you.

I'm just confused, Gorgo, and trying to make sense out of two apparently contradictory statements by going to the source for more information.

Okay, here is the deal. I didn't apologies for the “sigh” word and I never will. I have more then once explained why I opened that post with a "sigh" and I don't feel I have anything to apologies for.

It happens that I write the way I talk, even including words that signal a feeling I might be having. I do tend to sigh a lot. (Just ask Michelle.) If we had been having a conversation in person, face to face, and I had sighed, I really doubt that the sigh would have been taken so personally by Gorgo. People sigh all the time in live conversation. In my case it comes from either frustration or the weariness at having to, for example, defend that which is (rightly or wrongly) self evident to me. Doing that does not mean I think the person I am exchanging words with, or posts, or replying to in a fan mail is an idiot. Those expressions, which I use regularly, are only intended to let the person I'm talking with, and the reader in on how I am actually feeling at the time of the exchange, which, to my way of thinking, makes my part of the exchange more honest than it might otherwise be. And that is important to me.

Here is a very incomplete list of words and phrases I might use in an exchange that I will not remove from my tool kit because they allow the reader to be in on how I am feeling which helps to shed more light on what we are discussing and where I am coming from. I mean, I just don't do dry…

Sigh
Go figure.
Whatever…
Good grief!
What ever floats your boat.
Okay-doaky
Well,
Oh well…
Sheesh!

I also use sarcasm if that helps to illustrate a point I might be trying to make better than other methods of communicating. It is often the writers equivalent of a visual aid.

I never set out to offend and I don't approve of ad-hominem attacks. Having said that, I am not in complete control of how something I may write or say will be taken. (I can only dream that my writing is that good…) This thread is a great example of that. But again, the fact that I can't be in complete control of that does not mean I am willing to change my writing style, such as it is, just in case I might offend someone. I might consider something in the way I write to be overly aggressive or offensive if I were to be called on it a lot, or, even a few times. But that has not been the case. This is, in fact, the first time my use of the “sigh” word has caused the derailment of a thread, or has even been questioned.

I have already told you Gorgo (this would be the fourth time, including twice in this post) that you are a voice here at SFN and I don't think you're an idiot even though I sometimes disagree with you. (A bit too sensitive perhaps?) It would be dishonest on my part for me to apologies to you because I don't think I did anything wrong. It would be condescending of me to apologies.

The bottom line is that I will not write with one hand tied behind my back. And that's that about that…

Edited a bit...

Uncertainty may make you uncomfortable. Certainty makes you ridiculous.

And I was just beginning to wonder if you could act like any more of a smart mouthed prick than you've already been in this thread. My confidence in your ability to do so has just been raised to astronomically new levels. As H. Humbert said a couple pages back, "Gorgo, how many different ways and how many different people telling you that you're acting like an asshole is it going to take before it sinks in? Just curious." I'm curious, too.

Considering the early posts in this thread talked about members leaving for discontent with other members, it certainly hasn't stopped a mean spirited exchange here.

Risking getting involved in a domestic dispute which usually ends in the person intervening becoming the focus of the attack, can't you guys just kiss and make up? It seems like neither Kil nor Gorgo will just let it go, and Dave isn't helping. (Gee Mack just gave his response to Gorgo's last post so I'll leave that out for the moment.)

So you're all mad at each other's posts. People may have or may not have and should have or should not have apologized for the insults which either were or were not deserved. Gorgo is a bit outnumbered and perhaps not thinking carefully about each post. And Gorgo seems to be holding grudges over from very long ago posts. I can't really say Dave and Kil are overreacting but from my perspective they are. Both seem to have taken Gorgo's posts about past threads and this exchange more personally than necessary.

So everyone's pissed. Fine, have a beer. Move on. Don't gang up on Gorgo so that he leaves. Let him gripe without reacting to it. Someone has to break the back and forth going on here. I'm suggesting the members with more power (power in numbers) be the ones to stop responding in ways that keep the exchange going. Sometimes people just need to gripe.

Kil is allowed his idiosyncracies and has no need to apologize, certainly I'm allowed mine. No hard feelings. I'm not pissed. The code word today is facetiousness. Light-hearted jocularity. No need to drag it on, that's why I let Dave know I wasn't interested in keeping it going. (SCRAMBLED GODDAM EGGS!!)

Seriously, thanks for your help, Gal.
