That little publicity slut, the Virgin (yeah, right) Mary is at it again. This time she's on the belly of a turtle!

quote:
Shirley McVane of south suburban Burbank has had two pet turtles for about a year. But it was only recently that she noticed something different about one of them. McVane says a turtle began to develop what she believes is an image of the Virgin Mary on its shell.
"I told some of my friends, you know, 'I got a turtle,' and I said it has the image of the Virgin Mary on it, and I said it's getting plainer and plainer, and they said 'Yeah, Shirley, you're 81 years old. You think we believe that?' I said it's the truth, so now they all believe it," said McVane.

McVane has since renamed the turtle "Mary" and its tank mate "Joseph."

Hard to say it's the silhouette of the VM. I say it's the Grim Reaper.

My pareidolia is as good as Shirley's.

The foundation of morality is to . . . give up pretending to believe that for which there is no evidence, and repeating unintelligible propositions about things beyond the possibliities of knowledge.

Are you sure that second photo isn't Michael Chertoff? (At the FEMA Hollween Party?)

As for the Mary-turtle-belly, I think there are also some Samurai crabs off the coast of Japan who are fans of movie star Toshiro Mifune!

Good old Skeletor! Isn't it wonderful to have a man who looks like Death Incarnate to head Homeland Security?

Okay now, I'm lost. Are the "sightings" and the ones who see them destined for sainthood? What is the prize for convincing others you have found the VM on old cheese sandwiches, etc?

A good deal of my (and anyone else's) turtles probably do like a bit like the virgin Mary. I don't feel like taking any pictures of them, though. And if I did, no one would want to watch them. Yuck.

I could be wrong here, but I think the turtle is a Painted and that is a very common marking found on the plastrons of several species of sliders. Of course, they vary a bit from one individual to another.

The name's ok, though. It's a female.

That little chippy sure do get around, don't she?
