In two training videos (20 minutes and 17 minutes) made in cooperation with Microsoft, comedian Ricky Gervais reprises his David Brent idiot manager role from the British version of "The Office" to give pointers to the corporation's UK employees.

I'm still watching these, but I was especially impressed with "Brent's" personal choice of a hero: Nelson Mandela. Brent thinks Mandela is a hero because he spent 30 years in prison, has been out of prison for another 30 years, and yet "he hasn't re-offended."

Those were brilliant. My favorite bit when was he said Steven Hawking thinks too much and could do with a bit of telly. "Oh, look, Steven, Robot Wars is on!" And then when he suggested Hawking could indentify with the robots since he's "half man and half machine."

That was a parody of a training video? It looked absolutely nothing like one.

Overall, I think it's pretty bland. There are certain parts which I found pretty funny, but spread out through the 20 minutes dulls it down quite a bit.

Maybe I'll watch the other half tomorrow.

Why continue? Because we must. Because we have the call. Because it is nobler to fight for rationality without winning than to give up in the face of continued defeats. Because whatever true progress humanity makes is through the rationality of the occasional individual and because any one individual we may win for the cause may do more for humanity than a hundred thousand who hug their superstitions to their breast.
