Poll Question:
Which of the 9 Star Trek films was the best? In case you are wondering, I decided that Insurrection would be the one to leave out because it is obviously terrible and the worst of the lot.

I only just realised that. I was looking at another poll when I decided to do this. I forgot about the actual location. However, there are 9 of the buggers, so somebody must have a hidden agenda for them. :-)

I voted for "ST:TVH", with "ST:FC" as a strong second. "Voyage Home" had a nice sense of humor and was the last time the original crew didn't look burned out on Viagra. "First Contact" was just a good bit of science fiction, though it probably wouldn't have made much sense to anyone not already well-versed in the Trek mythos.

Ummm, I'll probably get howled down here, but they are all kinda boring.....I tried, god knows I tried, I could just not get in to them.....**snore**

Star Wars (the old ones) however....that is a different thing.

Any ST film that Rick Berman had a hand in was horrible. He writes likes he's making a TV movie of the week and has no concept of good SF. "First Contact" was probably the best of the TNG movies only because they played Steppenwolf's "Magic Carpet Ride" during the launching of Cochran's (AKA Farmer Hoggit) first warp craft - that was a cool scene.

Is this a trick question like "What's the smartest thing George W. ever said?"

The SciFi channel had a whole ad campaign when they ran ST 2, 4, and 6. They said, "even numbered Trek films don't suck."

Oh boy, a Star Trek vs Star Wars debate! Should I go get the firepower calculations for an Imperial Star Destroyer, and "prove" it can blow the Enterprise out of space?

I think the first was the least worst one of them.

Some Episodes of the various TV-series were actually quite good sci-fi, unfortunatley others were godawfull.

I dimly remember an episode of the original series, where they visited a planet full of romans and a happy-end that celebrated the introduction of monotheism on the pagan planet. Argh!

I am not sure about the starwars comparison. I think there is something they could do with the deflector shield and the wired particel of the day to win the battle. There always has been in the past.

But Captain Kirk would surely outwit Darth Vader and the Emperor with his uncanny space sense and ability to pick up space chicks

Any movie that doesn't include William Shatner's horrible hairpiece is a plus.

I voted for the "Wrath of Khan." It's got it all.

Ricardo Maltaban buffed out - with a graying mullet. (Still 5' 2" but I ain't gona picka fight with 'em.)

Parasite brain bugs in the ear.

Zombie Chekov.

Nice tie-in to original Trek TV episode. (Which all TRUE GEEKS rent along with the movie, and show back to back!) (It works by the way. Warning: Do not tell anyone you did this. )

Less revealing female uniforms (Italian ski jackets?) but babes nonetheless!

Battles within Nebulas ala submarine vs. destroyer. Always visually cool. Picard later studied the academy manual on this incident and remembered it when he was chased by the Borg.

Weird bio-weapon that changes barren worlds (or enemy planets) into golf courses and/or public parks - that later fall apart in another movie.

Lots of phaser fire.

Doesn't Spock die in this one? No, in the next one. (And in that one he gives his "mind" to McCoy. That's two brain losses for Spock. The cute lady in the mini skirt and boots who took his brain in the TV show wasn't around.)

Khan (Maltaban) going nuts on the bridge of his ship. Obsessing on Kirk's little mistake of leaving him on an explosive planet.

Good symphonic score.

Have you noticed that in the future if you don't have eyes they can give you glasses that give you super-duper vision. If you have Antaries Death Plague they can hold a little beeping box next to you and fix you right up. If half of you internal organs have been removed by the evil Borg you can be repaired to look like a super model during a commercial break.

BUT...if you have male pattern baldness in the future you are still out of luck.

I, too, am a "Rath of Khan" fan. I think Chippewa summed it up nicely. I would only add that if you're going to cruise space in a ship-of-war then have a good kick-ass fight. Later movie episodes of Star Trek got too touchy-feely for my taste.

I thought Khan's final utterances were completely in character...

"to the last I grapple with thee; from hell's heart I stab at thee; for hate's sake I spit my last breath at thee."

Ah, yes. Unrepentant to the end.

Dang, my favorite Star Trek movie isn't listed here... Galaxy Quest!

Guess I'll have to bow to Cheppewa's wisdom and vote for Wrath of Khan.
