Anywaaaayyyyy...
Falwell and Robertson are the obvious winners, and that seems an appropriate choice to me. They had a chance to make some kind of positive contribution at a crucial moment and they blew it. The choice is also significant in view of the religious right's effort to capitalize on 9-11, something that I believe will assume great importance during the next few years. They lost this first round, thanks to F&R's monumental gaffe, but it will be interesting to see how it plays out.
Their respective orgs will be notified of the results.
As for the nominations, I limited these to the people actually mentioned on the board(s). Some small fry were included as symbolizing disturbing trends, and not for the significance of their own contributions.

*Competition was tight, but they pulled it out in the clutch. 9-11 was such a sobering and tramatic event that even berserkly manipulative Rush Limbaugh's rabid monologue was absent... he actually sounded even-keel and reasonable. I was sure Robertson and Falwell would choke and say something constructive and sensible, but they must have realized SFN Moron of the Year scouts would be intently observing, so they sucked it up and got the job done.. That's the kind of nerve you want at the plate when your down by one, full-count, in the bottom of the 9th. Man, I wish they could swing a bat.

*Seriously, I think they're both very decent people who's opinions differ strongly from my own in many areas.

I had to go with Fallwell. Although the Harry Potter book burner would have to come in a close second.

I went with the book burner. But the reason was mostly personal. I have to deal with parants from time to time that are convinced that Harry Potter is Satanic material. Very depressing.

I would have to go with Bin Laden. The stupidity extends not only to the fact that he succeeded and thereby destroyed his own crusade but to the fact that he has been trying to accomplish something like this for years and years.

And in all that time he never foresaw what would happen or was too dense or megalomanic to consider it possible.

Falwell and Robertson have a close second for me. They just haven't the sense to see beyond their own bias but I suppose that is an inherent trait of those who hold to faith based beliefs.
