A joke, yes, intentional no.

Poland's deputy education minister, Miroslaw Orzechowski, was recently quoted as saying some really stupid stuff.
quote:
"The theory of evolution is a lie, an error that we have legalised as a common truth,"

Orzechowski said that the theory was a feeble idea of an aged non-believer, who had come up with it perhaps because he was a vegetarian and lacked fire inside him.
...
"We should not teach lies, just as we should not teach bad instead of good, or ugliness instead of beauty," he said.
...
A school pupils' association was expected to demonstrate in front of the education ministry on Saturday to call for his resignation.

Is this some kind of Polock joke? Those used to be very popular back in the middle of the last century.....

Oh yes, myth and legend are ever so much more sensible than the exacting research of thousands of scientists, and I find it something of a relief to realize yet again that we in the US don't have the sole concession on cretins.

Obviously a political appointee there.... reminds me of that ding dong creationist that Bush put in NASA who tried to edit NASA documents to say the Big Bang was uncertain or something... remember that? Clearly whoever appointed this guy wasn't too concerned about education in Poland. Sheesh.

More from the "League of Polish Families" (LPR), which is part of the Polish coalition government:
quote:
This weekend, Orzechowski was given some high-level support when European lawmaker for the far-right party, Maciej Giertych -- the father of LPR leader Roman Giertych -- told a seminar that Neanderthal man still roams the planet, notably in the United Stateswhere examples can be spotted in a boxing ring .
quote:
Giertych's son Roman, currently Poland's education ministry, insisted, however, that such anti-Darwinist outlooks would not impact on the school curriculum.

"The status of the theory of evolution will not change in Polish schools," he said Monday in a radio interview.

That's generally true about the American Neaderthals, though we prefer to try to keep this a state secret. But you don't find them so much in boxing rings as you do at NASCAR events, professional wrestling matches (in the audience), and petrochemical company board meetings.
