Largest? In volume, or in surface area, or in length of shoreline?

The largest lake on Earth by both area and volume...

Well, Lake Superior has the greatest surface area, but Lake Baikal has by far the most volume. So one lake just don't cut it in both categories.

Maybe they ignored you because it's a trick question. There are no lakes in the world, just magma. All lakes are on the world.

Well, what I wrote would be accurate for freshwater lakes. So, I guess it boils down to how one defines a "lake."

Lake Vostok is not a lake?

Even if it can be counted, it isn't as big as the Caspian Sea.

Don't you sea what happens when you let Kil drift the topic his own way?

Why continue? Because we must. Because we have the call. Because it is nobler to fight for rationality without winning than to give up in the face of continued defeats. Because whatever true progress humanity makes is through the rationality of the occasional individual and because any one individual we may win for the cause may do more for humanity than a hundred thousand who hug their superstitions to their breast.

(BTW, Filthy: I very much enjoyed following the link in your sig, and reading about that wonderfully nasty scoundrel, Soapy Smith.)

Is the time ripe at last for me to provide the world with the ultimate trivia question (and answer)? Is it time to quit trying to squeeze the last drops of milk out of this cow?

Glad you enjoyed it. The soapster was one of the truly great con artists, and one of my all-time favorites. His soap scam was a classic, and showed a prodigious understanding of human nature.
