Kolkata, Oct 24: Offering a "Vedic alternative" to Darwin's Theory of Evolution, an American author has claimed that human beings devolved from the "realm of pure consciousness", as testified by archaeological evidence discovered over the past 150 years.

"We did not evolve up from matter. Instead, we devolved, or came down, from the realm of pure consciousness, spirit," author Michael A Cremo, said, citing many archaeological, psychological and genetic examples.

Cremo was speaking on the occasion of the launch of his book "Human Devolution: A Vedic Alternative to Darwin's Theory" released by US carmaker and Ford family scion Albert Ford here last evening.

Author of the 1993 bestseller 'Forbidden Archaeology' that sold over 20 million copies and translated into 23 languages, Cremo claimed archaeological findings disproving Darwin's theory were being systematically excluded from the academic circles in a bid to "filter" knowledge.

I wasn't aware that bullshit was considered as archaeological evidence.

How much you want to be that his argument for "devolving" from "pure consciousness" has something to do with the Second Law of Thermodyanmics?

Why continue? Because we must. Because we have the call. Because it is nobler to fight for rationality without winning than to give up in the face of continued defeats. Because whatever true progress humanity makes is through the rationality of the occasional individual and because any one individual we may win for the cause may do more for humanity than a hundred thousand who hug their superstitions to their breast.

Actually scat is one of the most highly prized artifacts which can be found, a great deal can be learned from it. The only problem is that it only fossilizes in certain conditions.

Got him! I knew Cremo's name sounded familiar. He's just another windy woo-woo making a fortune fluffing the gullible.

Thanks for the link on Cremo, Filthy.

"On February 25, 1996 NBC aired a one-hour prime-time special, The Mysterious Origins of Man, hosted by Charlton Heston. Controversy exploded in the academic community following this telecast." (Throwing Chuck Heston in is really impressive.)

Cremo's highlighted academic qualifications, as shown on his site, seem to mainly consist of him having dropped out of college in the hippy daze, becoming a Grateful Dead fan, and getting into Hindu mysticism. Cremo and about 200 million others. Now, those are wonderful accomplishments, but by themselves do not make Cremo an authority on archaeology.

"Controversy exploded..." Yeah. Cremo's one of these idiots who tries to make hay from someone with real experience in the field saying, "Cremo, you're an idiot, and here's why."

What a fucking idiot. "Pure Consciousness" my ass. Human beings are far less sentient than we think. Hell most of our decision making is pre-scripted via our culture anyway. Mind is biological, consciousness is a physcial manifestation of our brains, nothing more. Destroy the physical, and the mind goes with it. Done.

I'd be interestd to hear some of the many archaeological, psychological and genetic examples.

What are you looking at? Haven't you ever seen a pink shirt before?
