I first heard an excerpt of Julia Sweeney's monologue "Letting Go of God" on the radio show "This American Life". I didn't realize it was the woman who played the character of "Pat" on SNL, but her story of being raised Catholic and journeying into eventual atheism through step by step curiosity and skepticism was something that touched me personally. I felt like I was listening to my own story, only mine took place over just 6 years (age 13-19) and skipped the New Age stuff.

I had the good fortune to hear Sweeney perform over an hour of her monologue live at the American Humanist Association conference in May of this year. Now, the entire monologue is available on CD. I highly recommend this hilarious and heartfelt gem of a performance.

Julia Sweeney was interviewed last week on Fresh Air with Terry Gross. The audio is available here:

She was also interviewed by the Humanist News Network, and that audio is available here:

Thanks for the review. I think she's going to be at TAM again. If it isn't the same material I'll definitely want the CD.

She honed her "Letting Go of God" at the CFI West. Played here for several months, off an on. Unfortunatly, I wasn't able to get over there. I too would like to see it.

Uncertainty may make you uncomfortable. Certainty makes you ridiculous.

Why not question something for a change?
