What is it with these "do as I say" Christians? Here's one, a rabidly anti-gay preacher of some authority amongst the Evangelicals, who reportedly, had a "business" relationship of three years standing, with a gay hooker.
quote:
Thursday, November 02, 2006

President of National Association of Evangelicals accused of 3-year sexual relationship with gay hooker, and of taking drugs

by John in DC - 11/02/2006 11:03:00 AM

UPDATE: This guy is reportedly as important as James Dobson:
The press tends to regard Dobson as the most powerful evangelical Christian in America, but Pastor Ted is at least his equal.

Hey, guess what? These holier-than-thou-is dipshits are mere humans with all of the warts, stupidity, hemorrhoids, carbuncles, and the festering mental hang-ups that the rest of us share to one degree or another. But from their impassioned rhetoric to all they can reach about walking in the footsteps of Jesus, who'da thunk it?

Well... For one; me. I've thunk it lots of times, and said it almost as many. Fuck him. If the story is true, let him rot in the Gehenna of of his own hypocratcy.

This kind of thing always reminds me of the old joke:

Q: How do you circumcise a bishop?
A: Kick the altar boy in the head.

Seriously, one has to wonder how many such instances (for all sorts of behaviours) have to be revealed before people start to realise that "the presence of absolute morality" does not really lead more moral behaviour.

"Business relationship"? Well, that would seem to be very American and enterprising. Just so long as Rev. Ted doesn't go trying to marry his man-whore. That would be a Satanic display of loving commitment.

Looks like more of that 'Tom Folery' syndrome is popping up again -- a crusader against x gets caught in bed with x.

Will be watching for this on the national news circuit!

Evangelical Leader Says He Bought Meth

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Rev. Ted Haggard admitted Friday he bought methamphetamine and received a massage from a male prostitute. But the influential Christian evangelist insisted he threw the drugs away and never had sex with the man.
Uh, sure, and I didn't inhale.

Isn't that enough for you people? What exactly is totally incredible about Haggard's simple explanation of facts?

Hey, the poor guy just had a neck-ache from wearing that fabulous globe-hat of his, and needed a massage from either a hunky guy or a hunky woman. Finding a hunky guy just happened to be easier, demographics-wise.

The meth thing? Pfah! He'd meant to ask for a hundred-dollar double-shot latte with extra caffeine, but the Devil made the wrong words slip out of his mouth. And when he did get methamphetamine, he simply threw it away, like any sensible Christian would do! What part of "Please believe this hilarious bullshit" do you idiots not understand?

It is entirely possible that most of his explanation is true (other than the "I threw it away" part); however, there is one irksome result: obviously, it's ok to buy methamphetamines, but it's not ok to be gay.

He's basically saying, "I may be a junkie, but at least I'm not a queer."

Really helps define his priorities, eh?

Right! And expect a possible later fallback position, like, "I may have blown that guy, but I'd never marry him."

Ted Haggard on gay sex:

We've decided the Bible is the word of God. We don't have to have a general assembly about what we believe -- it's written in the Bible, all right? So we don't have to debate about what we should think about homosexual activity. It's written in the Bible.

The Bible on gay sex:

If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death.

I wonder if Ted Haggard still believes the Bible to be the infallible word of God.

If Haggard commits suicide over this, we may then have the answer as to how sincere his beliefs were.
