Looks mighty fishy to me. The original story comes from Assist Ministries (www.assist-ministries.com) , an impressively loony christian-oriented "news service". Check this out, from the original article:
So why would the American Public School System and the politicians want to further the Islamic faith, push to have it become the One World Religion and nix Christianity?
Simple. Christians cannot be enslaved. Islam, an oppressive religion of control, cruelty and fear does enslave, which can keep people subdued. This is precisely what the future leaders of the One World Order want to achieve. And the misinformed, make nice, politically correct crowd seem eager to help them accomplish it.
But the greatest driving factor in all of this is money. There are the profiteers and politicians who stand to grow in unspeakable wealth and power by cooperating with the Arabs and finding favor by helping them and their pagan religion take control. They have no compunction in selling us out, and our freedom, to accomplish their goals. These greedy, self-serving investors stand salivating on both sides of the oil pump.

Jury's still out. The bare facts check out. I spoke to the principle's secretary today. (I'm writing an article about it for a political-type site) She warned me, or notified me, that there were a lot of rumors going around and that the textbook in question has been in use for a while.
(Pretend this is a witty Latin phrase, okay?) |

Can someone in the Golden State corroborate this appalling story? It has my skepto-alarm ringing. http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=25997
OH! That explains a lot. I was listening to talk radio today and came in on the middle of a conversation about that. Didn't know why they were discussing it. My boy just graduated high school so I'm not into what's going on in the public schools now. The couple of parents who called in to the talk show said the book covered all the religions of a certain time period and didn't pick on Islam more than another, from what I understood of what they were saying.
On the surface and not knowing all the details, this sounds to me like a mountain out of a mole hill, probably some ONE person complained and it's taken off into a great debate. I'm in Los Angeles(weird enough as it is) not near the place in the article but if I hear anything more I'll let you know.

Looks like I should have posted this one under "conspiracy theories." I wonder if ass-ist is something like fundamental-ist.

This might help. The Council on Islamic Education point out the parts of the ciriculum. It appears to be teaching about the basics of the religion to garner understanding of a minority culture in America.

It is also not the only thing taught in the class. It is a world history course. Proposing that the children are being indoctorinated is absurd.

Sure, but only if the Indians run around naked. I understand that's how Pocahontas spent much of her time, before they Xtianized her.

Okay, shameless self promotion but if anyone's interested: http://www.morons.org/articles/1/1217
Hey! My long distance bill got very icky from calling California, I deserve a little shameless self promotion!
Hmm, wouldn't Pocahontas have gotten cold in the winter?
