Well, those of us who peruse the Bad Astronomy board can't help but notice that a user calling himself "Emperor" has been quite active there. In one thread he admits to being John Reyes, author of a self-published book called "A Brief Scientific Slip In Time" now offered for sale as a PDF document at www.spaceskeptic.com. He started that thread by directing users to the spaceskeptic site, saying "Hey, guys, look what I came across!"

Er, can one legitimately say that about a site which advertises one's own book?

On the spaceskeptic site is a "recommendation" from an anonymous reviewer connected with a company or organization called "Unique Designs UK." I tried to search out this company's homepage, and got numerous hits for hardwood flooring companies based in the UK, for website design firms in New Zealand and in the USA, for a machine-knitting company, and for a company which designs custom wedding and bar mitzvah invitations. But no Unique Designs UK.

John Reyes has some distinctive quirks in his writing style. He uses run-on sentences, he often mixes or mangles metaphors, and he sometimes slips into ungrammatical or confusing constructions. You can easily see all of these things in his posts on the BABB, and there are also examples in the material attributed to him in the "recommendation" from Unique Designs UK.

In my opinion, the same stylistic quirks are present in the material supposedly written by an anonymous reviewer connected with Unique Designs.

The whole thing smells like a put-up job to me. In my opinion, John Reyes is spamming the BABB and trying to make a buck by peddling his short (78-page) "book" that, judging from his posts on physics, contains a confused mishmash of pseudoscientific attacks on standard physics and equally pseudoscientific speculation.

Interestingly enough, the spaceskeptic website is linked to a forum, apparently set up so that John Reyes can spread the Gospel of Physics According to John. Isn't that interesting!

Now, my friends and family all think I am just a real considerate guy who never would speak a harsh word to anyone, but all of you on this forum know the truth: I'm meaner than a bucket of rattlesnakes on meth.

In that spirit I cordially invite all and sundry to visit the forum at http://www.spaceskeptic.com/forums/index.php and practice some...Evangelical Skepticism.

Oh, I am just so ashamed of my nastiness. MUWAHAHAHAHA!
