Latest Pentagon war games show many additional Americans needed to pacify Iraq

POSTED: 10:15 a.m. EST, November 11, 2006

WASHINGTON, DC -- According to the Pentagon, a new series of secret U.S. war games staged during the last several months has produced startling results which indicate a much larger number of Americans would have to be posted to Iraq in order to halt the runaway insurgency and sectarian violence in that country.

The previous simulations were run in 1999, well before the war began. Those war games indicated a need for at least 400,000 troops for an invasion and occupation. But Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld -- hailed for saving money at the time by some outside the military -- used just 250,000 troops to invade Iraq in 2003, and has since reduced troop strength to about 144,000.

Now, according to Major General Jeremy J. Jefferson, who heads strategic simulations for the Department of Defense, "The numbers required to pacify today's Iraq have grown exponentially. They are very large indeed. Big figures, these."

Pressed in a news conference to provide actual numbers, Gen. Jefferson replied, "Lots. Lots and lots and lots of Americans troops. And even more civilians to provide support. Several general issue shitloads more.

"Look, people, I won't try to put lipstick on this pig," Jefferson stated, his face flushing. "The outgoing SECDEF putzed around with dangerously low troop levels for so long, the opposition threat levels doubled and redoubled for years on end. Our present force levels are not even in the same ballpark with what is required today. Not nearly. Not by many orders of magnitude. Many, many more are now required."

Gen. Jefferson continued, "Due to our low troop levels, Iraqi insurgency and sectarian forces -- not to mention the foreign terrorists who've poured in like hungry rats from neighboring countries -- have been allowed to grow in number to the point where it's now hard to find even a ten-year-old schoolgirl over there who's not packing either an RPG, an AK, or an explosive vest."

After another reporter pointedly repeated a request for specific numbers, Gen. Jefferson finally snapped, "Okay, you piss-ant feather merchants! Do you really want to know how many Americans would be required to bring peace to Iraq? I'll tell you how many! All of them!

"The latest simulations indicate that the presence of at least 300 million Americans, both military and civilian, would now be required to pacify Iraq. And, believe it or not, Donny Numb-nuts had us calculate the logistics for conscripting, arming and deploying every American man, woman, child, grandpa, and granny to Iraq, so his replacement would have that as an option to present to the CINC. I shudder to think what this President might do with such an option."

"But there is one number small enough for even you fat, complacent, noncombatant burghers to understand: The number of people who were most responsible for planning us into this clusterfuck. Here's that number!"

The General held up his middle finger.
