(First in a series on toy safety from the Consumer Product Safety Commission) The Consumer Products Safety Commission today released a list of "Christmas toys that should only be given to very bad Christian children, or to children who aren't Christian at all."
MaryLee Merrimont, CPSC spokeswoman and George W. Bush appointee, said, "It is not the proper work of our agency to dictate to parents what they should or should not buy for their kids this Christmas. Nor should we injure private enterprises in this holiest time of year by banning their products simply because they might pose a danger to children. However, we do feel it is proper for us to point out that some toys may not be as appropriate as others for rewarding good little Christian boys and girls."
Ms. Merrimont handed out a list of "Toys Inappropriate to Reward Good Christian Children, But Still Recommended as Gifts for Naughty and non-Christian Children."
#1: "Li'l Kahuna Tiki-Torch Crown"
Advertising for this toy says, "Light up the night and lead your loyal island warriors on raids, while wearing the Li'l Kahuna Tiki-Torch Crown! 100% genuine bamboo and napalm. Made in China by kids, for kids!"
You may want to give your good Christian kids flashlights, instead.
(More in this series will follow in the days to come. Next: "Ore-Ida al-Qaeda.")
