Hybrid is not proof of common descent, says prof Fort Worth, Texas, December 29, 2006 (Fort Worth Herald) -- Marilou Sittens discovered a disturbing image in the background of one photo as she reviewed pictures taken of her son's recent birthday party. In one photo, a tree in the neighbor's yard held a mother chimpanzee and her baby. The face of the baby chimp, Mrs. Sittens saw, closely resembled that of a human being. The photographer's neighbor, a research mathematics professor at a local theological seminary, maintains a backyard jungle menagerie.
Mother ape with "Chimpski." Who's been monkeying around in Fort Worth? The menagerie has been a source of neighborhood tension at times. "[Feces] is always being flung over the fence onto our deck or into our swimming pool," says Mrs. Sittens. "Sometimes, even the monkeys themselves throw that [feces] over here. We've had just about enough of this kind of [feces]!"
A man who came to the door at the neighboring home refused to confirm or deny that he was William Dembski. He claimed that Dembski was merely the baby's uncle. "This hybrid proves nothing about the common descent of apes and humans. Nothing!" He declined further comment, and slammed the door.
The baby ape has been dubbed "Chimpski" by neighbors. Though he hasn't yet seen the infant, Dr. Robert C. Koons, a philosophy professor at the University of Texas, Austin, when asked his opinion, hailed the young ape as "the Issac Newton of the Trees." He also hailed himself as the "Issac Newton of UT Christian Apologetics," and his cat Mittens as "the Issac Newton of Yarn-ball Theory."
