First, thanks for all the great comments on my admittedly silly essay on God's parts.

Now, on with the madness...

Ever wonder what the Pope thinks of the internet? Look no further. This CNN article came out earlier this week:

http://www.cnn.com/2002/TECH/internet/01/22/pope.internet.reut/index.html

quote:
The pope warned that not only did the Internet allow the spread of depraved material, it could also lead people to believe that facts mattered more than values.

No one would deny that values aren't important, but I'd say that facts are just as important. Only people who desire to hide facts are afraid of them.

quote:
Although the pope does not have an e-mail address, the Vatican has an active Web
site (http://www.vatican.va) and the church is reportedly searching for a patron saint of Internet users.

You have got to be kidding me.

quote:
He said the Catholic Church had adapted to every discovery through the ages, from the Renaissance to the invention of printing and the Industrial Revolution, and must now learn to reach the masses via cyberspace.

Word is the church was particularly fond of the iron maiden.

quote:
"For the church the new world of cyberspace is a summons to the great adventure of using its potential to proclaim the Gospel message."

In his first message sent to the world directly over the Internet last November, the
pope apologized to victims of sexual abuse by priests and other clergy.

Hypocrisy lives. So, the internet is deprived and needs the gospel message, but they'll just brush over the fondling thing.

In a way, you've got to give credit to the church, particularly the Catholics. They've always been able to adapt to changing conditions.

This is merely evolution in action.

Suggestion for the Patron Saint of the Internet: Al Gore. He didn't invent it, but he surely helped it along.

Oh. He's not dead yet? Ok, then how 'bout Ben Franklin. There was a man who knew about values and had a mind so open that any coherent thought was welcome. He'd have LOVED the 'net.

Wishing that I could get into a chat room with Ben.
