At the video store I usualy go to I saw a DVD of something I had heard of some time ago. A religious video for kids: Bibleman! Yes he fights crime while quoting scripture.
I got the disk both for my own amusement and to prevent the threat of this actualy being shown to an impressionable young mind.
The entire thing is highly campy, downright silly even. I think they make the old Batman series seem serious by comparison. Fortunatly for them this is intentional. Personaly I want to see the one "Bibleman vs. the Shadow of Doubt". Even better would be to see him go against someone like my friend Jimi who dabbles in bible studies, or a more serious scholar who can point out inconsistancies and contradictions.
There were also trailer/ads for a couple other items, some video series and educational software. It was rather disturbing to see how intergral they made christianity to these even from the trailers. Hell, they couldn't even teach 1+1 without refering to god!! "If god creates one ape, and then god creates another ape what do you have?" And then clips from the Bibleman Live tour. People bringing 4 year olds to this show, buying T-shirts, and stuff. Tried to look at the website but it seems to be down. Maybe the B man has been defeated already.

That's something I never understood. 'Impressionable minds'. I'm not saying it doesn't happen but I don't know why. How come the stories in the bible aren't read in the same way as the Greek Myths? I remember reading them in grammar school, no one ever mentioned that they were to be taken literally, only that ONCE in history that's what people of another time believed. How is it that the god of todays world became the thing that 'created' the world. I know! Politics. A couple of weeks ago I too saw a book laying on the counter of a book store. It was called Myths of All the Great Cultures or something like that. I thumbed through it but saw no mention of the Jewish god(the one I consider the instigator of all the troubles of the world today). I almost asked why the myth of the Christian god wasn't in there but thought better of being antagonizing just then. After all what could the clerk do? I suggest we tell the companies and publishers our opinions.

Time /Life ran one of their never ending series a few years back , on mythology. They had, Greek Myths, Roman Myths, Native American Myths, Norse Myths, but Christian Legends.

Call it Myth or Legend, I've never heard the expression "The Legend of Jesus Christ", either.
No one in the public venue has the guts to call a spade a spade. Say the word "legend" and most people associate that word with King Arthur. Say "myth" and people think of Zeus, Thor, Aphrodite, etc. Say "fairy tale" and everyone jumps on the Brothers Grimm or Disney. You have to be polite and use the word "stories" when refering to the deities that are near and dear to many people.
