During a recent discussion, I mentioned that around Darwin's time, some Christian apologists said that the fossils found in the rocks were placed there by Satan to confuse Christians and destroy their faith. My opponent didn't believe this, and demanded proof that any such claim was ever made by Christians. Unfortunately I can't remember where I read it. Help, anyone?

This is the answer my Fundamentalist Christian sister and her husband use to explain the fossils of dinosaurs and such. Satan in order to confuse man placed lies upon the earth to cause doubt about the validity that the Earth is only about 5-10 thousand years old.

I always wondered if that was all the older the Earth is how old is God. If he is infinate perhaps he has created thousands of worlds already far advanced from us and anyday now Missionaries will show up here just like we did to the people in the Non-Christian parts of this world and tell us the true meaning of the universe and God's plans for us in it.

Here's a site that gives "the history of fossils" in Europe. Devil fossils are a lot older than Darwin.

Interesting read. Unfortunetley it stops short some time before darwin etc.

It says Chapter 2 on the site but I could not locate more of it. Do you have an URL for the third chapter or an index to the article?

True, but it gives the story about the Devil and fossils, which is not from Darwins time but much earlier--1200's I think
