I said "other." I can't decide whether Captain Beefheart or Captain Crunch is better. Of course, to me, aside from the anthopoligical insights we might gain from talking about the "great leaders;" I find that these type of discussions usually degenerate into a "my prick-waving despot was better than yours" type of scenario. IMO, such figures may serve some evolutionary purpose, and should be scientifically studied (e.g., as profiles of the alpha male), though little can be gained, outside of pointless argumentation, about who is the "best." It's kind of like the discussions among music buffs about who is the "greatest guitarist of all times."

Your points are well taken, but you forgot Captain Kangaroo. (The way he twirled those keys when he opened his show.) Stirring! Mr. Greenjeans, though a nice guy, never commanded a production studio, so he's not on the list.

No. 2 choice is (of course) Ed Grimley.

If you want stay really "heroic" about it, the U.S. Army Rangers and Filipino guerrillas who rescued the prisoners from Cabanatuan get No. 1 status. (Far beyond a lot of the other people listed here.) (-;

You are absolutely correct. Even Captain America can't hold a candle to Captian Kangaroo. What was I thinking?

No argument.

Well, I did say it was for fun. And I am fairly certain that Napoleon could have kicked Jimmi Hendrix's ass...

Alright already. This is getting serious now. Any mention of superheroes without a reverent bow in the direction of Spiderman is strictly verboten on my threads.

I rather masochistically look forward to every Spiderman movie, including the one being released soon. The graphics look pretty chintzy in the previews, though, so I'll probably be disappointed again. But one can always hope.

My kids still love me.

Since you all decided to go there... I would have to add Dudley Doright. After all he always won the battle and got the girl despite being an absolute doofus. Was kind of cute though in an I-like-skinny-nerdy-guys-in-blue-uniforms kind of way.

A colder place I've never known, than with someone but yet alone.

Er, make that red uniforms. Dudley was a Mountie!

Hmmm... sounds like me!

Hm. Sounds almost exactly like me. I'm a cute-skinny-nerdy Sailor (where the blue uniform comes in, eh?)

As far as Great Captains, how about Finn MacCumhail? (Slater will, I hope, correct my spelling and information if needed) He single-handedly formed the Fianna, an elite group of Irish warriors who (not unlike Arthur's knights) brought peace and tranquility to the land.

-me.
