This one combines several New Age concerns in one story; ufo's, alien salvation, Native American mythology, and prophecies of, well, a new age free of wickedness and other bad stuff (including skeptics, no doubt). This guarantees a favorable reception among the faithful, and possibly some badly needed tourist income for the locals:quote: UFO researcher and former Prescott resident Paul Solem said the existence of the saucers justified an old Hopi prophecy that a "Day of Purification" was soon to arrive. It would be a day when all wicked people and wrong-doers would be punished or destroyed.

[/quote] Wow, what a concoction... something for everybody (except evil skeptics.) I noted they're from Venus, and look like extra-healthy humans (surprising considering the unaccomodating climate of the place, but I guess this means all of that evolution/adaptation to environment stuff was misnomer propagated by a long string of misled skeptics, so I retract that.) Reassuring to know that (semi?)spiritual beings still need something as crude as a spacecraft to get here, but it's so annoying that they always seem to insist on communicating with telepathy; I mean, I wish they'd just humor us and be compatable with our tape recorders and cameras for a change. Well, it sounds like we'll get a chance to run all of that by them real soon. If we're nice, that is, as was noted. Being so advanced, I can't see why our attitude should matter, but idunno.

Gee, Maria and I have discussed UFOs, she never once mentioned that her relatives or anyone on the reservation believed this. Hmm, shades of a monotheistic revelationary tale to me.

Wow, this all happened back in '70 and '71? I guess those Venusians have a fairly relaxed time schedule for their revelations.
I'd love to see Tony Hillerman write a story around these folks... but then, I'd just like to read another Hillerman story, no matter what the premise.
