Blah.. just read the "general" board and this had already been posted a few days ago. sheesh. I should get out more often (or read more often).
http://www.sptimes.com/2002/03/14/State/_ATHEIST__plate_raise.shtml
Florida, probably the best place in the world for anyone EXCEPT skeptics and atheists (now I know why Randi is HQ'd there) has done it yet again. This goes beyond scienos or banishing the devil from a back-asswards blip of a town.
10 people have objected to the license plate "ATHEIST". The DMV agreed with it being offensive and rejected the plate which had been issued for 16 years.
Does this mean we can all submit requests to have "4HIM" and "JESUS" and "RISEN" and the hordes of other christian tags removed? They're just as offensive if you ask me.
This is the main reason why I don't have a darwin fish on my vehicle, though:
"I had a wrench thrown at me in Jacksonville about 10 years ago. It went right over the hood," he said. Another time, "someone surreptitiously tore up my tag and threw it in the bushes. I put a frame and a plastic cover on it after that."
I can't deal with having things thrown at my car. Call me kooky but where I live (verGINNY, boy! whars yer rebel fag..uh..flag?!) there are far more truth-eating-darwin fishes than anything else.
Does anyone else find this wrong besides me?

Well, Zgnu, my old Red-neckmobile, '86 Ford F-150 is such a piece of shit that no one would consider damaging it worth while. So, I wear my Darwin Fish with pride. In North Carolina, 1/4 miles from the Providence Baptist Church. They're in the middle of a revival that started last Sunday and will run through the 20th. Dunno who's preaching, but they're all having a lot of fun. I expect to get witnessed at again, soon.
Loves them Baptists.

I read that the DMV's decision has been overturned. Lack of actual standards about what is or is not appropriate on license plates, I believe. I'm thinking of one for my own car. Heathen? Sinner? Any other more offensive ideas?

Quite by accident, my father was issued an Ohio plate whose number portion was "666".
It didn't bother him, and he kept it for several years, but finally he got tired of being kidded about it and turned it in. I wouldn't have, but then... he's a minister.

Donnie, I tried desparately to convince a friend that he should trade plates with me - his number portion is 666 mine is 665 - I missed it by 1. He's an atheist too, soooo he got the plate.
