Come on. Is that supposed to be taken serious? Abraham Lincoln was a president of the USA, does that make him an expert on whether or not gods exist?
No but it does make Cal Thomas a liar
My earlier views of the unsoundness of the Christian scheme of salvation and the human origin of the scriptures, have become clearer and stronger with advancing years and I see no reason for thinking I shall ever change them. -- Abraham Lincoln, to Judge J. S. Wakefield, after Willie Lincoln's death (Willie died in 1862), quoted by Joseph Lewis in "Lincoln the Freethinker,"
Mr. Lincoln had no hope, and no faith, in the usual acceptation of those words." -- Mary Todd Lincoln, to Colonel Ward H. Lamon,

Heh, looks like I'm not the only one who thought it might not be for real, because it was so poorly written:
quote: This article was so poorly written and so shocking that I still don't know if Cal meant it to be simply a joke.
The style had many similarities to newsgroup postings. A style that seemed to indicate that a child or teenager wrote it (esp. the last paragraph)
> First, it is the smallest minority group in the world. Why? Because there are no dead ones. What does that even mean ? Looks like a joke that an atheist would never get.
I am a conservative but I'm not sure if I'm agnostic or possibly an atheist. But I happen to know several atheists (my wife being one) and they don't go attacking other's beliefs and they don't belittle them. They are not obnoxious or confrontational.
etc...

I considered that, but after reading a few other of his articles...sigh.

Could Cal just be a crappy writer? Who said that columnists have to be good writers? I mean, obviously it would help and all but the only requirement is that someone publishes your column.

Considering the source - Crosswalk, it looks like they swept the floor and ended up with whatever the cat schlepped up. Par for the course. I think Thomas' brain suffers from a major logic infarction.

Believe it or not, this guy's column appears regularly in the Stars and Stripes newspaper. If you've happened to catch any of his articles on the military, he seems to think we're more righteous and god-fearing than the rest of america. I guess he never met me and my friends. Personal experience only: about 80% of the people I've met in my career field were agnostic. Lisa (Don't tell Cal. A journalist in the midst of a hissy fit is pretty ugly.) (But probably not uglier than that comb-over)

Apparently, as the article under discussion shows, he has his ups and downs. I've read his syndicated column before in the newspaper, and while I don't think I've ever agreed with him (he couches just about every opinion in religious crap), I've never noticed he was a bad writer. And this "article" is as amateurish as it is insulting, surprisingly so from a syndicated columnist.

This guy is given a regular slot in the local Baton Rouge Op-Ed page, and I would not consider this piece under discussion outside his realm of belief. However, he is normally much better at expressing his opinions, and does write better. If Thomas wrote this piece, I think, he must have been drunk, or never expected it to be published.

Wow this guy is unbelievable. If all the followers of a belief system die for their faith but one, that makes it true? Then I guess all the members of the "Heavens Gate" group are riding Hale Bop into the heavens. All but one who stayed behind to tell the tale.
