1) I simply cannot believe how many people still use AOL. Through seven iterations in howevermany years and still the worst engineered, worst implemented piece of yak shit I have ever had the displeasure to fool with. No offense to all 47% of you, of course.
2) Does the Linux column include all flavors? Seems like a miniscule share for something that has the enlightened internet community slobbering.

It's not so surprising that so many people use AOL. What is surprising and a shame is that these people don't realize that they can use a standalone browser instead of that pice of crap integrated browser that crashes all the time and is soooo slow. AOL Uers: You can download a regular browser and minimize AOL and have a pleasant browsing experience.
The Linux statistics really stood out to me also. In fact, I was discussing it at work with someone. Linux is only used at home by the ultra geeky and most of them use more than one operating system. Linux sometimes but another more mainstream OS when they want to do things like browse the web, play games or use software that doesn't work in Linux. Which is almost all software.
Linux is huge in the server area, of course. I should also point out that the Unknowns almost certainly contain a few Linux incarnations. And yes, the Linux category is all types. I have more detailed stats but only posted a sliver.

There are a few other interesting items(that I didn't post) that surprise me. There are a few hundred visitors using Internet Explorer 2-4 and Netscape 2-3. These are really old considering the age of the web itself. Hell, I remember being at the big IE 3 rollout at the Bellevue, WA Red Lion Inn back in what....1996? Seems like eons ago. While i wish everyone would just upgrade to the latest and greatest I know that is not the case so I have to design as much as I can to accomodate those folks.
Sadly, a lot of designers out there are implementing CSS that will only work in the most recent browsers. The colors look cool for IE 6 but functionality is lost for everyone else.

We've been through this before(at least I have on other groups) so I'm not going to argue with you about it. I am offended. AND........

(Have tried other companies, didn't like them.) I'm having a very nice experience, thank you very much.
Everyone said it couldn't be done. So no one tried. Execpt one old man who lived in a cave on the other side of the world. He hadn't heard it couldn't be done. So he tried. He couldn't do it either. If you succeed, you sell, if you 'fail' you learn |

You don't understand what I said about using a standalone browser Snake. I reccomend the same one AOL uses but without the integration that makes it less stable and with fewer options.

Atomic, apparently you maintain this web sight. How do you pay for the server? I am not sure how these things work, but would like to know.

Actually we just rent some space on a server. About 500 megs worth of space. That I pay for out of my pocket but it's a decent deal at only $50 a month considering the quality of service and extras.

OK, cool. I was looking for a new hero, and you just filled that position. Thanks, but my next question is, how do you find time to do anything else--Like work for a living? My hat's off to you Mr. Atomic.

It's really not as much work as you might think. There has been a little bit more than normal recently because I am working at upgrading the code and implementing a Content Management System but the CMS will make things much easier in the long run because posting of all content will require little if any help from me. It allows everything on the site to be posted via web forms rather than making an individual page for everything.
