Greetings all,
I've been away--by choice limiting my participation in this and other fora to lurking...
My reason for posting:
On the way to work this AM, whilst listening to Morning Edition, I heard accounts by Ossetians that Georgian soldiers were guilty of heinous atrocities including tearing open a pregnant women's belly.
The concept of this is completely sickening, of course, but I have heard precisely the same atrocity attributed to the Albanian massacre by the Turks in the early 1900's, the Nazis, the Serbs, the Hutus in Rwanda, and also in the current Sudan crisis (my apologies if I have gotten the ethnicities/countries wrong).
Given that heroes/messiahs have common archetypal origin myths that are virtually uniform, regardless of culture, is it possible that stories of atrocities also follow common archetypes. Actually, I am sure that these stories have grown with each re-telling, but has there been serious research into the veracity of these claims?

"Oh, I'm sorry. I thought my Dark Lord of the Sith could protect a small thermal exhaust port that's only 2-meters wide! That thing wasn't even fully paid off yet! You have any idea what this is going to do to my credit?!?!"
"What? Oh, oh, 'just rebuild it'? Oh, real [bleep]ing original. And who's gonna give me a loan, jackhole? You? You got an ATM on that torso LiteBrite?" |

Well stories of rape are virtually uniform, you wouldnt disregard those as manufactured. Unfortunately attacking the future soldiers of your enemies is all too common. Hard to say however if this particular story has weight, but targeting prenant women is not uncommon. |
