Oh, and before I forget it, here's the lineup for tonight's convention speeches:
PRESIDENT BUSH: He's been here before, of course. In 2000 and again in 2004, George W. Bush accepted the Republican nomination in prime-time on the closing night of the convention. With five months left in office, he is in the spotlight on the second night, giving a party valedictory.
I guess he changed his alleged mind on giving the convention a miss, although Cheney seems to be lurking elsewhere.

Yeah, the Minnesota Twins are together again!

Kil.....

Hey, Kil, sitting up here in the bleachers for this game, I damn near clapped my hands off for your razor-sharp riposte to Robb! Couldn't have done it as well myself, and those words don't come easy.

Robb is a sweet, kind sensible human embryo, still residing in the belly of a concrete shell of christian crackpot crap. I predict that by the time he's fifty, he'll peck his way out of the Stygian void of ignorance in which he is currently wallowing and receive an epiphany of, a Kantian critique of, pure reason! The mind is working behind the curtain!

Robb has an advantage over the real hard-core fundies who are arrogant in their ignorance. Robb is not magistral. He believes, as all micro-zealots do, for purely irrational emotional reasons. But the ember of intelligence glows beneath the detrius of religious trash that covers his cognitive powers. Robb will burrow his way out of his rabbid hole of philistine nescience someday and become a freethinker! I know, because Dog gave me the gift of prescience!

Apologies, my friend. I'll be more considerate in future. Now, set your coffee cup aside and consider: it can no longer be said that our Sarah has not been vetted; she is now the most throughly vetted candidate in living memory -- by the blogs, et al! I was going to try & list some of it but John Aravosis generously took it upon himself to do it for me.

Great Googa-mooga!

"The new GOP talking point, dutifully repeated in the last 24 hours by McCain's spokesman, by Bill Bennett, by Gary Bauer, by Bill O'Reilly, and pretty much by every Republican surrogate on TV (they're very good at handing out talking points) is that the blogs are mean. That's John McCain's only response to the revelation that he didn't vet his choice for vice president of the United States? That bloggers are mean? Wow. If John McCain can't handle words from DailyKos, how is he going to handle bombs from Al Qaeda? But putting that aside, what really irks the Republicans is that the blogs, and the corporate media, did the vetting of Sarah Palin that McCain failed, and refused, to do. The next time a McCain supporter throws a temper tantrum over how mean everyone is to Sarah Palin, ask them why John McCain didn't even bother vetting our potentially future commander in chief. Had Sarah Palin been fully vetted, we'd never be discussing any of this."

And the list is a doozy; take care of that back & hang in, bro!

Robb said:
Not serious? He lied under oath for the intent of obstructing justice and denying another American their right to a fair and speedy trial.

He lied about fucking Lewinski. If that, in your mind, is "intent to obstruct justice", then you need to get on some psych meds ASAP.

Face it Robb, you have an irrational hate of Clinton. It stems from the perception that he "stole" the '92 election, which he didn't, he won because he got more votes than the other two. So GET OVER IT!

Here's a thought: What if Palin retires from her nomination? What then?

Well, McCain's ass is already hanging out in the wind over Palin, and then he'd have it hanging out there with no VP in sight. The religiously insane won't stand for Lieberman or Romney (nor will 'most anyone else) and the rest of the original candidates just might not want any part of playing second, second fiddle in such a hopelessly disorganized campaign.

I think that it is a very real possibility that she will either remove herself or be forced into it by the campaign, citing family issues -- new grandchild, Downs infant, personal problems (malfeasance of office investigation), and so forth in either case.

I managed to death-threat my toob into showing me a blurry & staticy portion of the convention last night, including some of Bush's speech. I wasn't terribly impressed. What I saw of it, beyond the obligatory "Hooray fer us'ns!" was no more than the same tired, old crap the Republicans have been spewing for years, and Bush was entirely predictable -- 9/11, 9/11, war, war, ready-to-lead, bullshit, bullshit, bullshit. Fuck him and all that he stands for.

I'll try & view it again tonight, but expect small difference.

I have been thinking the same thing. They are blaming the media and partisan spin for having questions about Palin, but they wouldn't be doing that if they weren't nervous themselves about where these questions about her are going to lead. Basically, and this really showed up in Fred Thompsons speech, they are saying that the bad guys are tying to derail a great choice because they are bad guys. So don't listen to the bad guys cause they are just bad. But whether they like it or not, her problems have become news. If another shoe falls, she's fucked. And based on the links you provided, I almost think it's inevitable.

McCain is already under fire for his vetting of her, big time. If she goes down, he will be blamed for making a bad executive decision. Not good for someone running for the position of chief executive.

Boys and girls, the Palin choice may assure our victory.

The other side of this is that if she weathers the storm and comes off as confident and competent, even if not as knowledgeable in a debate with Biden, she wins. The bar for her will be set lower than the bar for Biden and simply standing up to him will be seen as a victory. There is also the problem of Biden looking like bully and some sympathy going to the underdog who couldn't possibly have his experience, yet. But I doubt that will happen. She seems scrappy and Biden isn't a bully.

I'm hoping for a self destruct based on bad vetting. That turns Maverick Mcain into Impulsive McCain.

Yeah, it is the big bad librul media's fault that Palin's hubby is a secessionist, or that she is anti-choice, anti-gay, anti-science nutjob Assembly of God delusional hypocrite, or that she is neck deep in scandal with her abuses of power, or that the vetting process used by McCain (if there was one) was piss poor.

I think you are right Kil, but it also turns "Maverick" McCain into "Easily led" McCain.

And now the foul Rove is pumping it all like deflated beach ball.
Karl Rove, the former White House fixer who's made a living in politics for his entire adult life, praised John McCain's "brilliant" pick of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate even while acknowledging that the pick was motivated solely by politics rather than her ability to step in and become commander in chief.

Fox News host Alan Colmes, demonstrating an uncharacteristic willingness to go after one of his network's many conservative guests, reminded Rove of his previous observations that Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine, who was considered a finalist to be Barack Obama's No. 2, had little time in office and his only previous experience was as mayor of a small city.
I'm starting to smell fear-sweat. We'd best be looking to the voting machines in some key states, because as it stands now, the Republicans have a problem that's growing like a long-incubating disease close to maturity.

I don't see her stepping down. She gives her big speech tonight. They are going to try and just brush ALL this stuff under the rug....something they are rather good at.

Still, if this campaign comes down to the "fence sitters" then all of this will certainly help Obama's chances.

I don't see her stepping down either. And the results would probably be even worse than just sticking to it as it would be see as flip-flopping; being weak and would ruin McCain's macho image.

This is going well for us. But it is still far from over...

Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there – on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.

Sam Harris (yeah, that Sam Harris) has an op-ed piece in today's LA Times, talking about A) How bad the Palin pick is and B) How it might work for McCain amyway.

Palin's nomination has clearly excited Christian conservatives, and it may entice a few million gender-obsessed fans of Hillary Clinton to vote entirely on the basis of chromosomes. Throw in a few million more average Americans who will just love how the nice lady smiles, and 2009 could be a very interesting year.

Well, if she does step down, I doubt that it will be her choice.

She will give a very good speech tonight. She seems to be a natural in that department. Born in a log cabin, walked barefooted in the snow 30 miles to a one room schoolhouse, not because she had to but because she wanted to. Took on big oil (without mentioning that her hubby works for BP) and took on her own party cause she is, above all, a reformer and bla bla bla with equal portions of God, God, God... It'll be a barn burner. Honest, there will be some older Republicans who will have their first boner since their wives threw them into another one of their fifteen bedrooms, alone for years, because they snore at night. Tonight, all those white folks will wear their funny convention hats more proudly than they thought possible, even as they sowed those stupid buttons and crap onto them.

She is gonna do a political version of Sally Rand, fan dancing her way into the Republican libido while keeping her most important parts hidden, but seemingly exposed.

By the way, have I mentioned what a prick and a liar Joe Lieberman is?

I am looking forward to her speech -- I'll probably get it on the radio, as my treasonous TV won't pick up PBS very well.

And there's no doubt about it, the Republicans are gonna love her even if she chokes. They have to because she's what they've got and unless she steps down, for whatever cause, they're stuck with her.

But it is not the hard-core Republicans nor the Democrats who decide honest elections. It is the rest of us.
