"I brought my baby to touch the wall, so that the power of Darwin can purify her genetic makeup of undesirable inherited traits," said Darlene Freiberg, one among a growing crowd assembled here to see the mysterious stain, which appeared last Monday on one side of the Rhea County Courthouse.

"We are all connected; to each other biologically, to the earth chemically, to the rest of the universe atomically."

"So you're made of detritus [from exploded stars]. Get over it. Or better yet, celebrate it. After all, what nobler thought can one cherish than that the universe lives within us all?"
-Neil DeGrasse Tyson

LMFAO! Gotta love "The Onion"

I would rather face a cold reality than delude myself with comforting fantasies.

You are free to believe what you want to believe and I am free to ridicule you for it.

"Behold the power and glory of the scientific method!"

Uncertainty may make you uncomfortable. Certainty makes you ridiculous.

Why not question something for a change?

Guess what, uncommondescent linked to the same article ("the faithful gather to worship saint Charles", 5th sep 2008 - I won't link). At least one UD reader failed to see that it was a joke. Moderator DaveScot filed the post under a new category he created - Poe's law which wikipedia defines as follows:

Poe's Law — Without a blatant display of humour, it is impossible to tell the difference between religious Fundamentalism and a parody thereof.

There is irony here on more than one level.

DaveScot must think "Darwinists" would actually do such a thing, then. That's rich.

Hey, Kil, congrats on 6,000 posts!

Also, it is impossible to tell whether or not the UDers really think so or if they simply take it as a joke.

Reminds me of these really annoying "comedy moments" when characters keep on asking "but did he know that I knew that he knew" and so on.

Heh. I hadn't notices until you pointed it out. When compared with other members over the same time period, which is since the beginning, I still have a low post count. But then, I strive for quality over quantity unlike the rest of the rabble who post on SFN.

Anyhow, thanks!!
