Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there – on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.

Thanks! I used that Wiki image to guide my version. Didn't know it was done in Spore, also!

Well, I got a rather definitive answer to that question this evening.

Also:
Also - what effect do the unhappy people have, anyway? I never bothered to look that up.
I've heard rumors that unhappy citizens can revolt. I've never seen it happen, but then all of my built-out colonies have two smiley faces.

As others have noted, that's awesome, Mooner.

And now I can say that what happens in the core doesn't happen again.

You went back?

Hmmm. How far OUT have you gone? Might be something interesting out there. Doubtful though. I think the core thing is more or less the climax of the game. Yeah, sure, you can play and play and play but that gets uninteresting with nothing to work toward.

I've started a new game. Going to try it as an omnivore from the cingle cell up.

Yup. Using the special tool to carve a bee-line of systems from freespace towards the core, through the Grox. Only made one wrong turn, but of course I only got about halfway. It was a lot less effort to get from there to the core again, though, to see if I could re-load.

All the home systems seem to be about halfway out on the spiral arms. I've probably wandered 3/4ths of the way to the tippy-tips. Nothing remarkable.

Well, I'm working towards the two hidden badges and a bunch of accomplishments. Given the hugeness of my empire, it's a lot easier to keep going from where I'm at than to start over (although I'll have to in order to get a lot of other accomplishments).

You can get a nifty accomplishment if you finish cell stage in under eight minutes.

Well, there's no badge or accomplishment for it, but tonight I filled my ship. 99 of everything you can buy; 99 of each kind of spice; 99 each of 9 kinds of plants and 9 kinds of animals, and 99,999,999 Sporebucks. I've got one cargo slot left open, but it would have been pointless to put anything into it. I suppose it's there for when I find artifacts.

Next, I'll be trying to nurture a nearby level-2 empire up to level 4, so I can switch to their archetype, netting me another badge and another accomplishment, simultaneously.

If anyone else is still playing, I just ran across star system "Sagan-2" at 251.76 degrees, 340.63 parsecs. It's unremarkable for everything but its name, which was probably generated randomly.

I'm just wondering if, because the Sol system is in the same place in everyone's galaxy, if maybe Sagan-2 is, also.

I quit playing a while ago - I got to the Space game but grew bored with it.

Overall the game is a disappointment. Perhaps I'll play again if they come out with a free add-on/update that changes things up.

I restarted on a higher difficulty level and went as far as the tribal stage. But I haven't played in a month or so. My daughter's obsessed with Zoo Tycoon now, though my son still plays Spore on occasion. I agree the game is overall disappointing. It draws you in obsessively and has a lot of intersting features, but it could have been a heck of a lot more.

http://www.neowin.net/news/gamers/09/01/08/spore-galactic-adventures-set-for-spring-release

EA's latest simulation, Spore, is set to receive its first official expansion pack this spring, according to Kotaku. Many were led to believe that Spore: Creepy and Cute Parts Pack was just this, but apparently not. The game looks set to follow a similar path as The Sims 2, with multiple expansions and add-on packs – more fun for some, something a little more debatable for others.

No details were released about the expansion pack, developed by Maxis. However, they plan to reveal the details of it, and possibly future expansions and add-on packs, at an event held in San Francisco, not long from now.

Fans of the game (children in particular) will be delighted to hear the news, although many are little less willing to pre-order what has been labelled as a rip off by some. And that could be expected when you look at The Sims 2, which had 6 editions of the base game (although some contained expansion packs), 8 expansion packs and 10 ‘stuff' packs – which normally contained 60 extra items to add to the game. It's down to you to decide what value that holds.

Well, it would have to be a pretty significant add for me to buy it. And it will have to get some pretty good kudos from reviewers too.

BTW - I started fooling around with Zoo Tychoon and boy is that a fun game.

I was so disappointed in this game, after such a long wait it really let me down, so I wrote a bad review for it. It's a shame they aren't making any more creatures games, even the original was more interesting than this child's toy.
