Problem is, do you really think these things bother about half the people in this country?

More & more & more & more. The more I read about her, the worse Palin becomes.
Get ready for more fallout over Sarah Palin, who seems to be even crazier than I thought. There was an attempt to rehabilitate her from the accusations of pushing creationism recently, but the counterclaims got the facts all wrong. They claim that she only said that schools ought to "debate both sides," but that's the creationist position — pointing out that she was reciting creationist slogans does not somehow get her off the hook. And then there's this litany of eyewitness stories from residents of her home town, who seem to be cheerfully trotting out to stick a knife in her campaign.
And that ain't all by a long chalk, in fact, it's pretty mild, comparativly. Read on.....

"Lipstick on a pig?" Obama didn't use it in the Palin context, but I will. Or perhaps an Ichneumon in skirts.

What the hell was McCain thinking?

Well; looking at the polls so far, it seems like whatever he was thinking is working.

It might come back around, but it is not doing so so far...

Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there – on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.

Which says a lot about the American electorate, doesn't it.

We are a nation of fools.

I have been wavering between hope and despair. It seems the press is finally getting pissed off about their lack of access to Palin. Lies that she and McCain keep repeating are beginning to become news stories of there own. It seems that even the press has a breaking point. And then there is the economy.

It's too soon to say how this will play out but cracks are starting to appear in the McPalin wall of invincibility, and more importantly, they are being reported on.

I guess I will remain cynical and skeptical until Obama's hand is raised on Jan 20 and a "state of emergency" hasn't been declared...

Not to mention that violence seems like it might be rekindling in Iraq (wonder if it is a coincidence or the guys want to affect the outcome of the elections).

But, don't knock yourself too hard. Voters are fools everywhere; nothing specific about the US.

One can only hope...

"HOPE, n.
Desire and expectation rolled into one.

Delicious Hope! when naught to man it left --
Of fortune destitute, of friends bereft;
When even his dog deserts him, and his goat
With tranquil disaffection chews his coat
While yet it hangs upon his back; then thou,
The star far-flaming on thine angel brow,
Descendest, radiant, from the skies to hint
The promise of a clerkship in the Mint."
~~ Ambrose Bierce

Hope, n.

I too, remain just a tad cynical.

Over at CNN (I know, Dave, I'm sorry...), there's a great story:
Sarah Palin likes to tell voters around the country about how she "put the government checkbook online" in Alaska. On Thursday, Palin suggested she would take that same proposal to Washington.

"We're going to do a few new things also," she said at a rally in Cedar Rapids. "For instance, as Alaska's governor, I put the government's checkbook online so that people can see where their money's going. We'll bring that kind of transparency, that responsibility, and accountability back. We're going to bring that back to D.C."

There's just one problem with proposing to put the federal checkbook online – somebody's already done it. His name is Barack Obama.
Zing!

UPDATE: A campaign spokesperson insisted that Palin was referring not to that specific proposal, but rather to "that kind of transparency in general."

Incidentally - Palin doesn't know what "hubris" means or what the "Bush Doctrine" is, well the latest today is that John McCain doesn't know who the Prime Minister of Spain is (José Zapatero)- or maybe he thinks Spain is part of Latin America. He gets pretty confused. Then his damage control people, trying to blur over what he said, end up slighting Spain, a NATO ally, by clumsily implying that McCain says Spain would have to prove she's on our side.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ONGFONFz4FM

After McCain's confusion prompted the Spanish reporter to ask FOUR times if McCain as President would meet with Spanish Prime Minister Zapatero, to cover his tracks, the McCain handlers tried to spin it that he understood all along but they end up implying that Zapatero would be considered if he stood for McCain's definition of freedom and liberty and not do harm against the United States. Thereby pissing off the Spanish, (a NATO ally,) even more. The news is now all over Spain as well as the US Latino blogs.

Diversity, independence, innovation and imagination are progressive concepts ultimately alien to the conservative mind.

McCain/Palin are a fucking embarrassment. I'm ashamed to be from the same country as them.
