Socialists are selfish, they want what others have earned. |
By they way; Mab's puzzlement is justified.
Most socialists thinkers have been intellectuals whose revenues were higher than average.
That would be especially true about Obama (if there was any clue of him; you know; being socialist).
So; socialists having a higher than average revenue, they would stand to loose by the adoption of the system they advocate.
So, no, not shellfish and willing to give away part of what they earned.
I know you were probably not planning on making sense but I am bad at keeping my mouth shut sometime. |

Sadly, Mab, there are Americans who a) really think this, and b) think that people who are left of center (so, most of the Democratic Party) are really just socialists. |

Curiously, the closest thing to Democrats we have in Sweden is a party called "Folkpartiet", and they are on the right of center... Their counterparts in other European countries are also right of center.
American politics (from my European perspective) is so generally right-leaning that the whole scale is on its merry way toppling over and crashing into the Atlantic. The ordinary Republican is in right-most quarter in the most right wing party in the Swedish parliament. Then add evangelical/fanatic conservative Christianity onto that. The thought of such people in crowds horrifies me to no end!
People are entitled to their opinions of course, but I can't for my life figure out, or understand, how they arrived there.
Perhaps my inability to go there politically, resembles evangelical Christian's inability to understand an atheist's perspective: that atheists are not denying a God whom they in their hearts know exists, but for atheists the idea of god or godhood is meaningless and/or pointless.
Humankind evolved as a highly social species. For me it seems only natural that a socialistic community is a survival trait. Add democracy into that, and you've created a social-democratic ideology.
Edited to add: Very generalised, of course.

Only because you do not understand that socialist leaders are the ones taking from the poor.
Look to your history.
The evidence is apparent.
You would exactly expect those that are in the upper classes to use socialism to further their gain, whilst presenting to the proles that the gain is theirs.
Look to history to understand the present.
