I had to reply to this piece of self-righteous garbage.

Though he does it indirectly. So of course he's not playing at "holier-than thou" at all...

What brought that on? this. Original posting here.

Another example of this guy's lunacy here.

I wonder about the facts behind it though. Do Religious people really give more than non-religious (leaving aside the disproportion between the two groups in America).
Another question I'd ask is, what Charity are they giving to? Does that include giving to your own church so that your pastor can buy himself some male prostitutes? I'd be weary of classifying that as giving to Charity...

Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there – on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.

Where is this study? I think it's been shown that a big chunk of volunteer hours go to things like painting churches. What charities or organizations do these people give to? Do they give to worthless charities like Mother Teresa's group or their pastor's SUV, or do they give to something that makes a difference in people's lives, like the ACLU?

Are they conservative because they're wealthy and can afford to give more money?

I know the rent is in arrears
The dog has not been fed in years
It's even worse than it appears
But it's alright-

The book is Who Really Cares: The Surprising Truth About Compassionate Conservatism by Arthur Brooks.

Reading here the data is indeed fuzier than the authors make it to be. Most of the difference being, indeed, church goers paying for their pastors haemorrhoid creams and similar gift to the church itself.
The slant was accentuated into a right-left disparity, apparently because the editor considered that it would help the book sell better.
