For a long time, America has, generally, been center right, politically. Historically, we tend to go from right to left and vice versa, some periods lasting longer than others. I perceive that America is gradually turning from center right to center left. This has little to do with Barack Obama winning the presidency but could be a slight indication. It has to do with evolutionary thinking, being tired of status quo, and just plain historical changes that occur over time. Also, as older conservatives die off and new progressive thinking young folks take their place, this too point to a change to center left.
