Actually, what I found most amazing that immediately after ducking the first shoe, Bush was actually smiling. It was sort a wtf? smile, but a smile all the same. The video has to be a clear resolution video to catch his reaction, though, and all the clips on YouTube are pixelated as hell.

I've got to tell you, I am not sure I'd have ducked that shoe with the alacrity our president had. I am impressed.

Also, I would probably smirk afterward, too. "I mean honestly, who throws a shoe!?"

Update:

Bush's Iraq assailant has broken arm, ribs: brother
53 minutes ago

BAGHDAD (AFP) — The Iraqi journalist who threw his shoes at US President George W. Bush has a broken arm and ribs after being struck by Iraqi security agents, his brother told AFP on Tuesday.

Durgham Zaidi was unable to say whether his brother Muntazer had sustained the injuries while being overpowered during Sunday's protest against Bush's visit or while in custody later.

He said he had been told that his brother was being held by Iraqi forces in the heavily fortified Green Zone compound in central Baghdad where the US embassy and most government offices are housed.

"He has got a broken arm and ribs, and cuts to his eye and arm," said Durgham.

"He is being held by forces under the command of Muaffaq al-Rubaie," Iraq's national security adviser, he added.

Can't say I'm surprised. This is not the Mid-East democratic oaisis (aka pipe-dream) that the neo-con war planners had envisioned when they plotted to invade a soveriegn nation without cause. The difference is the prisoners are now beaten by guys we gave the power too instead of Saddam's guys. How's that song go? "Meet the new boss, same as the... " I just hope our new boss will be better than the old boss.

I hope he's better, but I have my doubts about how much better.

The Fox puppets made a good point this morning that I just happened to hear when scanning the airwaves. One of them said that if this had been some countries, that shoe guy would be dead right now, and he was probably right.

He was talking about Middle East countries, but I wonder if he should have included the U.S. Folks is paranoid here.

Don't bother mailing shoes to the white house either.

What brought that on? this. Original posting here.

Another example of this guy's lunacy here.

A little more:
I don't like to say "I told you so", President Bush, but three weeks ago I blogged about how thousands of Iraqis gathered in Firdous Square, where Saddam Hussein's statue once stood and pelted your effigy with thousands of shoes, then set it afire. This is what I wrote then:

"The president must have missed the sight of tens of thousands of Iraqis who on Friday gathered in Firdous Square where Saddam Hussein's statue once stood and chanted, "No, no, no to the occupiers!" He must have missed them dragging and pummeling his effigy with their shoes -- a gesture of contempt in the Arab world -- then jumping hysterically on it as they stamped out flames that had erupted after someone set it afire. "

And it turns out6 that about a zillion lawyers are lining u7p to defend Mr. al-Zaidi in court, pro bono.
