Despite the fact that evolutionary biology denies the concept of "de-evolution" or "devolution," the industry of religious music continues to provide widespread, if unscientific, anecdotal evidence for such backwards evolution.

In a break from my usual practice of posting Photoshopped versions of existing images, I am below presenting unaltered religious LP covers. These are already unbeatable prima facie arguments against a theocratic takeover. Plus, leaving them alone is attractive to a lazy man.

I have about four dozen of these collected so far, and expect that number to approximately double. I will publish more selected groups if I note an interest.

Yes, that Jim and Tammy.

Awesome new addiction!

I'm so glad religion has forsworn the need
to scare ignorant people into believing.

Family ties.

Blood Bayou.

At least their adopted son will never announce
that he's gay, like their natural one did.

Holy sandwich, Jesus!

Lord only knows who or what's in the trailer.

This explains some of the logistics of the Rapture.

Oh. Kay.

D'oh! I am too stunned to comment.

Whitesploitation.

I've been searching online Bibles using
keyword "UFO," but never found a hit.

Lowell's song lyrics were a little short on practical ideas.

I love those album covers. Really great stuff. I wish I had them!

Depressingly, inspirational covers like these have died along with the vinyl LP. Fortunately, many have been digitally preserved for posterity at http://www.bizarrerecords.com/gallery.html

That certainly proves God exists.

My guess is the answer is about 10:1 scale.

There are actually two karate preachers? Who would have thought that would be such a competitive niche?

These are hilarious, Mooner. Your caption for the God's Finger album is perfect. I like the 2nd album cover in your first post too. Just the idea that someone would print this HUGE book but only be able to fit a single verse across two whole pages cracks me up. I'm guessing the next page contains a pop-up.

Where are you coming up with these things, Mooner? Hopefully not from a personal collection.
I really miss polyester suits and beehive hairdos.

A lot of them I fished out of this huge collection, which isn't subdivided to make finding religious albums particularly easy. These was another source, too, but I can't find my link; maybe I neglected to save it.

Ah, Jim and Tammy Faye... that takes me back.

They all look so clean, it's obscene. Just makes you want to force them, at gunpoint if necessary, to help you muck out the sty before the sow farrows.

Thanks for the memories.

Great stuff, Halfmooner. There's some wacky-wacky stuff out there. The beehives are out of this world!

TG, Bizarre Records are a hoot to look over from time to time.

Brother Dave Gardner was a very popular entertainer in the '50s. His humor was mainly slanted at southern silliness and he was one of the best of the era.

I can't verify it, but it is said that he was an atheist. Some of his routines seem to suggest this. I once had some of his albums but lost them. I plan to replace them one of these days -- Amazon has them on CD.

I love that Dave Gardner cover. The cigarette adds just the right slightly sleazy touch to the guy's pious pose. But the photography is just too professional for what I was putting together. Plus, I think one of us here used the image a couple years back.

Halfmooner, I know these LP covers are the real thing...it's just they're so over-the-top (their own characterizations); it's as if you created them, not unlike your fruit box thread. Ha

In fact, here's a challenge to you (if you decide to try it out), with the above wacky LP covers for a bit of a guidepost...let's see what you can come up with with your own religious 'Bizarre Records' creations.
This could be really, really good!

Here's my crude thrown-together attempt....

Like the fundies, PT Barnum also made big bucks by exploiting
a low-brow fascination with little people and the handicapped.
