They grows 'em big and they elects 'em dumb in South Carolina.

Physioprof may be declared illegal in South Carolina and subject to fines up to $5000 and up to five years imprisonment. Details here. And you can thank this guy.
Here are some of the afore-mentioned details:
A BILL
TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 16-15-370 SO AS TO MAKE IT UNLAWFUL TO COMMUNICATE PROFANITY IN A PUBLIC FORUM OR PLACE OF PUBLIC ACCOMMODATION; BY ADDING SECTION 16-15-430 SO AS TO CREATE THE OFFENSE OF DISSEMINATING PROFANITY TO A MINOR AND PROVIDE A PENALTY FOR THE OFFENSE; TO AMEND SECTION 16-15-305, RELATING TO DISSEMINATING OBSCENITY, SO AS TO SPECIFY BOTH ORAL AND WRITTEN PUBLICATIONS; AND TO AMEND SECTION 16-15-375, RELATING TO DEFINITIONS FOR PURPOSES OF MORALITY AND DECENCY OFFENSES AGAINST MINORS, SO AS TO INCLUDE THE OFFENSE OF DISSEMINATING PROFANITY TO A MINOR.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. Article 3, Chapter 15, Title 16 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 16-15-370. (A) It is unlawful for a person in a public forum or place of public accommodation wilfully and knowingly to publish orally or in writing, exhibit, or otherwise make available material containing words, language, or actions of a profane, vulgar, lewd, lascivious, or indecent nature.

(B) A person who violates the provisions of this section is guilty of a felony and, upon conviction, must be fined not more than five thousand dollars or imprisoned not more than five years, or both."
Even I can see this getting shot down like a tree-rat in squirrel hunting season. It's so far beyond the First Amendment that the ACLU have the hysterical giggles throughout the first trial -- if indeed there ever is a trial. I'm sure there are smarter people the bill will have to get past before it becomes law. One hopes, anyway.

I've always rather liked SC. They have some really neat swamps.

I like the south in general, but they're never going to shake the ignorant redneck fundy stereotype until they significantly reduce their percentage of ignorant redneck fundies.

In North Carolina this summer, at a rest stop, the condom machine in the rest room featured a sign, in huge print, advocating abstinence and marriage. I wish I had thought to take a picture of it, but I didn't so can't quote it verbatim, but it was something like this:

While condoms can reduce the risk of STDs and pregnancy, they are not 100% effective. The only 100% effective prevention of diseases like AIDs and Syphilis are abstinence or marriage in a committed, monogamous relationship.
