President Obama!

Just wanted to say it, type it, and enjoy it for a few minutes before my cynicism returns.

President Obama!

You're right. It IS pleasant to type.

Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there – on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.

Yeah, sounds real good. And if we hold his feet to the fire (as we should with any representative), maybe "President Obama" will continue to look and sound good.

Well, my prediction that Bush would artificially extend his presidency happily did not come true.

I was sort of struck by a comment in Obama's speech, and see now that Andrew Sullivan picked up on it, too:

"For we know that our patchwork heritage is a strength, not a weakness. We are a nation of Christians and Muslims, Jews and Hindus - and non-believers. We are shaped by every language and culture, drawn from every end of this Earth."

I just wonder if by "every language" he meant Sumerian, too...

Of course, even dead, isolate languages. The guy's serious about inclusion.

The photos of the fundy nuts' (and I mean certifiably insane) signs and lettered clothing are here. Fascinating that they include "sports nuts" and even "good people" in their list of evildoers.

But predictable. It's a common meme among AM Christian radio personalities that just being a good person won't get you into heaven. Indeed, Hank hanegraaff-- the "Bible Answerman" almost takes glee when he talks about this. It doesn't matter how good you are. You must be a Jesus-loving Christian to get into heaven. Period.

The "sports nut" thing is more odd, unless it's just a way to say "idolater" in a way that resonates more with a modern audience. But there almost certainly are Jesus-loving Christians who are also big "sports nuts" (*cough cough* Tim Tebow *cough cough*) so I don't know what the problem is.

Beer never tasted so good as that I am drinking from the President Obama glass that I ordered from Buzzflash a couple of months or so back.

It also tastes good that I can again use the man's name in conjuncture with "President," something I have not done for eight, teeth-grinding years because I never accepted Bush as the legitimate holder of the office. I'll find out how it feels to paste a stamp on a letter right-side-up sometime this week.

I also caught that the quartet playing right before him was playing a theme oddly familiar. And, no it isn't because it's a John Williams tune.

The center section of the piece was Lord of the Dance which has particular significance for my religion.

He seems genuine about inclusion.

President Obama (ya know, it is enjoyable to type that) had a lot of lofty and hard goals. Some of which are a bit unsettling where it comes to healthcare and my job. I'll be watching the next 90 days to see how he tries implementing it.
