Frickin' fantastic!...Obama flushing out some of the old Bush stink.

http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=aYSQ9OT7ErVU&refer=home#

snip....

-Obama also said he is ordering federal agencies to make it easier for the public to get documents and information from the government.

“We are here as public servants, and public service is a privilege,” Obama said, addressing his White House staff and Cabinet on his first full day in office. “It's not about advancing yourself or your corporate clients.”

and further down the article....

-The president said that when top White House aides leave government, they are barred from lobbying “for as long as I am president, and there will be a ban on gifts by lobbyists to anyone serving in the administration.”

"A lobbyist who joins the Obama administration also is forbidden from working on issues they previously were involved with, he said. Any person who leaves the administration will be barred from lobbying the government for two years.

“We need to close the revolving door that lets lobbyists come into government freely and lets them use their time in public service” to promote their own interests when they leave, the president said. Government hiring, he said, will henceforth be based on qualifications, competence and experience, “not political connections.”

That's a start and a rather good at that. I'd rather something done about Guantanamo first but that's still a step in the right decision.

Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there – on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.

Those are very specific loopholes he's slammed shut, ones that lobbyists have indeed been using. Great!

Why two years? Wouldn't four years make more sense?

Well, while Obama seems to be getting busy trying to fix things up, you can guess what the Rapture Ready people are doing...yep. They're getting ready to support their president.

As usual, their paranoia is riding high, while their knowledge of irony is as low as ever.

What brought that on? this. Original posting here.

Obama aims to close Guantanamo.

US President Barack Obama is expected to announce that he is ordering the closure of the Guantanamo Bay prison camp within a year.

He is also expected to order a ban on abusive interrogations and a review of military trials for terror suspects.

Of course, you know what the Christian right has to say about things like that...

As one commentator wisely said:
We can only just imagine how the Rapturds would be screaming if Christians were being held and tortured, all without legal representation, and all without having charges filed against them...

Think now of those poor iddy-bwitty homeless D.C. lobbyists. Imagine them today sobbing and crying on their own sleaz-bag message boards.
All I can say is....laa-dee-frickin'-daa!

Maybe they'll jump careers into something on the same level as lobbying like child molesting, grave robbing, insurance sales, etc.

Randy, I insist that you apologize to all the grave robbers out there. They are only doing the bidding of their evil scientist masters and, unlike lobbyists, there are some things they won't do.
