Chastened after only one day by fascistic fury from the far Right, Rep. Phil Gingrey has now cravenly backed off from one of the most sane comments heard recently from anyone in the GOP. Like a little wimpy, flower-bedecked wuss, Gingrey has publicly retracted his criticisms of fascist pricks Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity.

So much for the GOP taking immediate post-election-disaster corrective action to stop its spiral into fascism:
(CNN) – Republican Rep. Phil Gingrey of Georgia apologized Wednesday for criticizing conservative hosts Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hanity, assuring his supporters that "I am one of you."

"I regret and apologize for the fact that my comments have offended and upset my fellow conservatives—that was not my intent," Gingrey said in a statement. "I am also sorry to see that my comments in defense of our Republican Leadership read much harsher than they actually were intended, but I recognize it is my responsibility to clarify my own comments."

The mea culpa comes one day after Gingrey appeared to take issue with Limbaugh's recent criticism of congressional Republicans. The conservative radio host said GOP leaders weren't adequately challenging President Obama on his proposed stimulus package.

"I mean, it's easy if you're Sean Hannity or Rush Limbaugh or even sometimes Newt Gingrich to stand back and throw bricks," Gingrey told the Politico. "You don't have to try to do what's best for your people and your party."

It was hilarious to hear Gingrey grovel in his apology to Rush, and Rush magnanimously accepting his apology. What isn't funny is that Rush, with a democrat in the White house, seems to be, once again, being taken seriously by Congressional Republicans. Piss off Rush and you piss off millions of idiot "dito heads".

Uncertainty may make you uncomfortable. Certainty makes you ridiculous.

which, in itself, might be an indicator of things to come.

As many wondered after the elections, it might be suggesting that the GOP will regroup itself around its most conservative reactionary base.
Which is not, at all, a good strategy for them.

Let's Obama do as well as he able to, and we will only see the far-right being more indignant, and loosing more credibility, until the GOP fades to the far-right of the spectrum as a shameful relic...

Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there – on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.

Replaced by what? It is virtually impossible for any third party to get traction – the parties in power have seen to that. So if the GOP, instead of realizing they need to get back to being the GOP and continues to cater to the far-right fundies becomes marginalized, where does that leave us. With the Democrats holding most of the power, always? I really don't want to start calling everyone Comrade.

I think a failure of either of the two major parties would be an event that would open up the possibility of a "third party" becoming one of the two "majors." But that would probably be a new party made up mainly of exiles from the failed party, rather than an existing minor party rising to prominence.

The Whig Party disappeared prior to the Civil War, and the Republican Party then arose.

The two-party scheme in America is strange by international standards, but in the US has been oddly stable over time. However, one or the another major party may fade away and be replaced. I think things would work as I outline above, but really this is just a guess. There are no rules, so I'm only extrapolating from history.

As a possible period in which the Democratic Party might be the only functioning major party, I don't think you'll have to adopt revolutionary salutations. We Democrats are sadly notorious for our lack of party discipline. Harness your paranoia. Having only Democrats in power would functionally be like having no party in power at all.

Does that sort of paranoid rhetoric really make you feel good about your political stance, Hittman?

Much better than the fascist alternative.

But seriously, do you really believe your own rethoric?
And do you really believe anyone is falling for it?
I'm disappointed, because I expected more from you than this.

Not even the former Communist party in Sweden is suggesting the old Soviet 5-year Government planned economy, but realise that market economy is necessary. And compared to them, the American Democrats are a right-wing party.
Don't sell out your integrity to cheap rethorics, Hittman. That's Limbaugh's domain. I'd hate to compare you to him.
