He needs to be impeached.

Have a trial, let him defend himself publicly, etc.

No one knows all the details except the investigators and prosecutor, but I have a feeling this guy is going to see some quality jail time.

Blago is a real piece of work, ain't he.

This is why I voted for Barr-Topinka in 2006.

The sociopath believes he's done nothing wrong.

Sadly, if you take a look at pay for play politics in Illinois, you will see that it goes back decades. Like nearly a century.

This self same self important twit has done the following

1) had a very public fight with his father-in-law Illinois Rep Mell of Chicago. This included saying such assinine things on local news such as "if Mell thinks he has the testicular virility to take me on".
2) won 2006 by pulling a Carl Rovian ploy of painting his opponent as having ties to organized crime. (Untrue allegation)
3) Had his picture taken sneaking out of his home in Chicago where the foreground had a notice on a pole declaring that the alleyway he was in had been baited for rats. The notice went missing the next day. (Chicago Sun Times, 12/10/2008 & 12/11/2008)
4) was so blatant about attempting to shake down the Tribune Company and Children's Hospital, and attempting to sell to the highest bidder the Senate seat of the President-elect.
5) blamed a 14% approval rating (pre-arrest) on the economy. He bizarrely claimed it was "an honor to take an ass kicking for the people". (His approval rating is now about 6%. Conjecture is that is how many patronage jobs he gave away.)
6) Had downstate Republican general assemblymen get written statements from him promising that he would support legislation if they voted for some of his legislation. (While this kind of wheeling and dealing happens all the time. Putting it in writting indicates that Blago reneighs on deals..... a lot) These written documents were made public when he screwed them.
7) Illegally transferred funds from projects that were passed through the legislature and signed by him into law into a pet project which failed to pass the legislature. (Marked here as illegal because he was taken to court over seperation of powers by the same downstate legislators who lost the funding. Blago lost.)

He just doesn't get it.

Lisa Madigan (Illinois AG and daughter of the Illinois Speaker of the House) has tried to remove him on the most tenuous of grounds claiming the legal trouble and the fact that no one in the state will trust him enough to work with him is a disability worthy of removal. I knew it was bullcrap when I read the filing. She was arguing against a constitutional conventioneer who asked specifically what was meant by "other disability" in the removal language of the Illinois Constitution. The answer was a physical or mental disability.

Welcome to MY nightmare.

He must be impeached and removed for the good of the state.

In the past 108 years, we've arrested 6 governors.

I really don't like counting Dan Walker in that number because he was the only one of the 6 (3 Dems, 3 Reps) who got arrested for stuff he did when he wasn't in office.

Dan Walker did time for the S&L scandal.

Wow, that's some pretty ballsy bullshitting right there.

Yeah, this guy is a piece of work. He thinks himself untouchable. Good. Hopefully that means no leniency will be shown when they hand this cocky prick his jail sentence.

Update for all you folks.

Blago was impeached today.

Vote was 114-1-1.

2 others did not vote at all. One due to being out of town. One due to being dead.

The single no vote was from an IL-32 man who did not seek re-election (I'm half expecting him to show up as a "public official B" type)

The present vote was from a IL-26 woman who lost re-election in a viscious campaign.

In other news, Jesse White (Ill Sec of State) won his Ill Supreme court case which was trying to compell him to sign Burris's documents.

Burris also mentioned that he had sent a lobbyist to Blago in September to convey that he was interested in the Senate seat. (The lobbyist has been identified as the infamous "lobbyist 1" from the Blago indictment)

I freakin love my state.

I don't blame you for loving your state, Valiant Dancer. All that corruption makes for interesting times.

Now, Burris should not be allowed into the Senate. Not that I think he's clean, but even if he were, just being appointed by Rod Blogojevich would forever cast a stank upon his term of office.

That Burris doesn't mind that speaks poorly of his principles. Any real small-"d" democrat would not only avoid asking a corrupt Governor for the office, not only would say "no" if asked, but would announce in advance that neither he nor anyone else should accept the office, until Blogo is no longer Governor.

I'll be pissed if the US Senate seats Burris, even though I'm a big-"D" Democrat who wants to see as many Democrats as possible in the Senate.

I guess that's progress – Illinois has a long history of dead people voting.

Well, the Illinois House voted to impeach. The trial begins January 26. Wonder how long that will drag out.

Great news, to say the least. Hope he now will disappear out of view.
