This time she's on about the raciest opinions of Darwin, the slavery abolitionist.
"Darwinists, just divorce racism. Get back to me when you have filed, okay … O'Leary
Just up at an earlier post at Uncommon Descent (comments box):
“Since ID is not a religious program, but a scientific one, I fail to see why an ID proponent needs comment what a religious organization does or doesn't do. Evolution is all about science (or so we're told), as such its founder clearly held racists views drawn directly from the science. If you have a similar connection between racism and ID, we're all ears.” - Donald McL
Thank you, Donald! that is precisely my point.
I certainly do not hold myself responsible for everything anyone has ever done in the name of religion, simply because I am a Catholic Christian.
I have also never held any individual Darwinist responsible for everything anyone has done in the name of Darwinism.
But I am - at best - surprised by the lack of interest of science societies in backing away from Darwin's racism.
It would be EASY to do.
I do not want to quarrel uselessly about this. I am simply asking all members of societies that have made statements supporting Darwin vs. intelligent design to FOLLOW UP with a formal statement *divorcing* Darwin's racism.
Just divorce Descent of Man now! Just DO it!"
The woman is certifiable. The Darwin/racism red herring was settled long ago, and no, I won't divorce myself from The Descent of Man. It contains far more science and wisdom than anything Dembski and Discovery Institute, and it's bastard child, Uncommon Descent, has come up with in all of the time they've been spreading their fallicious nonsense.
Sorry 'bout that, Denny; it jusy ain't on.

You know when you're speaking shit when you're an UD contributor and lots of UD commenters disagree with you. Some people do agree with her, such as R. Martinez at #13:
The Bible reports brutality, slavery, and other nefarious deeds of human beings—it does not condone them. |
Laugh, cry or deer-in-headlights. Your choice. |

| ROTFLMFAO!
After all, the Bible is only the National Enquirer of the Bronze Age. Just the facts, no opinion, and no recommendations for behavior.
This, just as an example, didn't happen with God's Biblical approval: 1 Samuel 15:7 And Saul smote the Amalekites from Havilah until thou comest to Shur, that is over against Egypt.
15:8 And he took Agag the king of the Amalekites alive, and utterly destroyed all the people with the edge of the sword.
. . .
15:20 And Saul said unto Samuel, Yea, I have obeyed the voice of the LORD, and have gone the way which the LORD sent me, and have brought Agag the king of Amalek, and have utterly destroyed the Amalekites. | Mission Accomplished!
And the Bible also didn't condone the second utter destruction of all the Amalikites: 1 Samuel 27:8 And David and his men went up, and invaded the Geshurites, and the Gezrites, and the Amalekites: for those nations were of old the inhabitants of the land, as thou goest to Shur, even unto the land of Egypt. 27:9 And David smote the land, and left neither man nor woman alive, and took away the sheep, and the oxen, and the asses, and the camels, and the apparel, and returned, and came to Achish. 27:10 And Achish said, Whither have ye made a road to day? And David said, Against the south of Judah, and against the south of the Jerahmeelites, and against the south of the Kenites. 27:11 And David saved neither man nor woman alive, to bring tidings to Gath, saying, Lest they should tell on us, saying, So did David, and so will be his manner all the while he dwelleth in the country of the Philistines. | Silly Xtians. Don't know their own Babble.
Then again, the author of 1 Samuel seems a bit confused by what he was writing, too. Maybe he figured the Continuity guys would catch any problems.

1 Samuel is the "reporting" part, not the "condoning" part. The condoning of slavery occurs where God (in quotes) lays out the rules about how to treat slaves, including (in no uncertain terms) that you will face no consequences if you beat your slaves and they don't die because of it.
I've been following the coverage of that UD thread over on AtBC, because I can't take the full, uncut ridiculousness of UD (I get mine filtered). And it's been a laugh riot. |
