It all started on March 4th, with Jon Stewart obviously (and justifiably) pissed off at Rick Santelli and the whole CNBC crew. Five days later, Jon Stewart had an "FU" for Cramer, specifically, and a Moment of Zen, too. The next morning, Cramer goes on a couple of NBC shows and gets asked about Stewart, and so Stewart has to respond, naturally. The next night, Stewart announced that Cramer will be on the show on the 12th.

The 12th's show was astounding, not least because Stewart took a whole night off from doing fake news. Watch the intro, and then part 1, part 2 and part 3. It's clear that Stewart wants CNBC (or someone else, it doesn't matter) to do more than just regurgitate the stock numbers, but to use their smarts to explain what it all means, where it's going and to peel back the curtain on all the "shenanigans." Investigative reporters do that sort of thing, and I thought Cramer made it pretty clear (without being explicit) that CNBC - despite their slogans intimating omniscience - doesn't really do investigative reporting.

This show might net Stewart another award nomination without the word "comedy" in the title.

(Or maybe the whole thing really started a year ago.)

(There's also general CNBC hating from Stewart in January, 2008; Cramer on Colbert last October, and a Cramer Moment of Zen from last October.)

Edited to add a link to the intro segment.

I don't know why they call this a war between CNBC and Jon Stewart. To me it looks like a massacre. Stewart wins...

That was probably the best half hour of television I've ever seen, and I've been watching TV since the early 1950's.

Jon Stewart is a friggin' genius, the way he used humor to built up a feud for weeks, then arranged that great, dead-serious showdown.

Stewart eviscerated Cramer, CNBC, and by extension, all the shady cheerleaders of the criminals who caused the sub-prime meltdown. The videos Stewart screened not only showed Cramer's shutteringly horrible buy advice via his CNBC show, they also showed that when Cramer was a derivatives dealer, he was already a crook.

Cudos to Jon Stewart. Stewart was already a comedy hero, now he's a hero for all of us who are enduring this recession/depression with little if any of the money we'd planned to have.

The Great Depression had Will Rogers to help America through the dark times. In our times, we are fortunate to have Jon Stewart.

Don't get me wrong, I thought the "interview" last night was awesome. But it also seemed like Jon was jumping around a lot, not exactly giving Cramer a fair amount of talking time. I suppose he was trying his best to not directly attack Cramer, or at least making it seem like he wasn't.

Did anyone else think Cramer was a bit choked up during the first half of the interview?

Why continue? Because we must. Because we have the call. Because it is nobler to fight for rationality without winning than to give up in the face of continued defeats. Because whatever true progress humanity makes is through the rationality of the occasional individual and because any one individual we may win for the cause may do more for humanity than a hundred thousand who hug their superstitions to their breast.

Some more Will Rogers quotes (from Wikiquote):
You've got to be optimist to be a Democrat, and you've got to be a humorist to stay one.

We are the first nation in the history of the world to go to the poor house in an automobile.

We are the first nation to starve to death in a storehouse that's overfilled with everything we want.

Be it pestilence, war, or famine, the rich get richer and poor get poorer. The poor even help arrange it.

I am not a member of any organized party — I am a Democrat.

That an NBC CEO would misrepresent Jon Stewart wasn't surprising. I hope Zucker get's nailed on it.
Wait, is this what they call a Zucker-punch?
