PALERMO (Reuters) - A Tunisian pilot who paused to pray instead of taking emergency measures before crash-landing his plane, killing 16 people, has been sentenced to 10 years in jail by an Italian court along with his co-pilot.

=========

Something else, this conviction and ten year sentence. In another light...if a operating surgeon does the same thing -- go into religious la-la land, and the patient dies because of his delusional outburst...yeah, charge him with manslaughter and throw the idiot in the jailhouse to think about it for a long time.

When you board a plane, or the like, a big part of arriving alive at your destination depends on the crews professionalism (duh!). Imagine if that 'miracle on the Hudson' pilot blipped out like the Tunisian turkey did. Good thing that he didn't.

Spooky deal...zipperheads like that Tunisian bozo with people's lives in their hands. Based on the terse article, the Italian courts did the right thing. I'd hate to think how much this really has happened.

In contrast...an atheist pilot would have safely landed the plane -- no lives lost, I'd like to think. :)

I wonder how much "support" mail the idiot is getting, telling him he did the right thing and that he is now being "persecuted?"

I would not allow this dickhead to even be a passenger on an aircraft again. If there were ever a crash with him on board he might obstruct evacuation procedures while he kneels in the aisle.

He could still be useful. If a window blew out, his ass could be used as a plug.

I suspect that the praying pilot believes that his taking time to pray actually saved lives.
