Like it or not, evolution has an effect upon everything and history tells us that religion and politics are far from immune to it; indeed, quite the contrary.
A RELIGIOUS RIGHT CRACK-UP?.... In general, the most noticeable fissure among politically conservative evangelical Christians is generational. In this dynamic, older evangelicals see themselves as an appendage of the Republican Party, and consider abortion and gay rights as the only "moral" issues that matter. Younger evangelicals are less partisan, and consider poverty and global warming important, too.

But there's another fissure, which in the short term, may be even more consequential. It's between leaders of the religious movement vs. those more inclined to take John 18:36 to heart (Jesus said, "My kingdom is not of this world").

The split first emerged, on a conceptual level, about a decade ago, when Cal Thomas, a far-right columnist and founding member of the Moral Majority, write a book called "Blinded by Might," arguing that conservative evangelical Christians have been going about their efforts all wrong. Religious right activists, Thomas said, should focus less on political power and influence -- having a seat at the proverbial GOP table -- and more on religion and family.

In her Washington Post column today, Kathleen Parker reports on how this kind of thinking as grown considerably more common, to the point that many "principled Christians" are now "finished with politics." Parker highlights a recent argument between Tom Minnery, head of the political arm of Focus on the Family, and Steve Deace of WHO Radio in Iowa.
An interesting read about how the Religious Right screwed up the Republican Party and vice-versa.

I'd be lying if I said I was upset by the fracturing of these groups. Less power to 'em!

Whetting the point a bit finer:
Anti-choice activists apoplectic that Republicans haven't stopped Sebelius

by Joe Sudbay (DC) on 4/06/2009 11:09:00 AM

The hard core anti-choice forces are a determined lot. They seem to think they have complete control over Republican Senators (and that's probably true in some cases). But the GOP Senators are letting down these single issue zealots by not blocking the nomination of Kathleen Sebelius for Secretary of Health and Human Services:
How lovely, they're actually starting to whine & snivel.
Conservative groups that oppose Sebelius's confirmation are displeased with their erstwhile allies in the Senate – and say they will make their voices heard while lawmakers are in their home states for the current two-week recess.

“I think it's appalling,” said Marjorie Dannenfelser, the president of the Susan B. Anthony List, a fundraising operation for candidates who oppose abortion. “I think this is why Republicans are in the minority.”

“They know we care and still there was nothing said,” Dannenfesler said. “Mum was the word.”

Wendy Wright, president of Concerned Women for America, described the GOP's silence on Sebelius's pro-abortion-rights record as “baffling” and said senators have shown they have a “tin ear” to concerns of the anti-abortion movement.

“We've not gotten a good answer about why they're being negligent,” Wright said. “What I hate more than anything is pretending an issue doesn't exist,” said Dannenfelser.
Margie dear, I can tell you exactly why the Repubicans are in the minority: everything they've touched has turned to shit ever since the days of the doofus Reagan, and the country is at last waking up to that fact.

My advice: read the above OP article and then suck it up! You've lost some of your power and now you're losing your grip. And you share the blame for it along those same Republicans, who are beginning to recognize you, among others, for the poisonous, fungal growth that you are.
