This from the Daily KOS. MaikeH, whose father had been an ardent, genuine, WWII German Nazi, writes of his father's reaction to watching FOX News in 2004:
One day, we had the TV on, and for whatever reason (that I have forgotten), we were watching Fox News. My father watched for about ten minutes, then he said, "What is this?"

"Fox News," I answered.

"This is some kind of joke, right?"

"Uhm, no."

"You mean this is an actual news show? Not satire?" My father obviously thought I was pulling his leg.

"No, it's not satire. Why are you asking?" I said.

"Because all you have to do is change a few adjectives, and it's Nazi talk."

That's very interesting to hear it from someone who experienced the propaganda machine himself.

I also found the list of "eerie parallels" interesting, I wonder if these tactics has been used quite often throughout history.

Republicans as Nazis? I just don't see it.

Sigh. Such a simple gesture, ruined for everyone by a bunch of mid-20th century goons.

Well, it could be worse.

At least goose-stepping isn't common.

The huge lightning bolt S in the middle of the frame is what caught my eye first. The salute is just icing on the cake.

The Nazi's used effective political propaganda, effectively stirring up hate against a sub-group, and rode that to victory in elections (with the aid of a large vote supression effort).

So yes, there are some interesting similarities in the tactics used then by Nazis and now by the GOP.

Came from the front page of CNN. I suppose CNN may have Photoshopped it, but I think there are journalistic ethical guidelines against such things. The perspective does look off, though. Your right in that it's most likely a composite.

Pissed off the Freepers, at any rate.

Pissed off Freepers are the very best kind. I did my part and got banned fron Free Republic in 2000 after only 2 posts.

But that is an interesting if unrealistic photo. I'm sure the Freepers love it.

They're giants; descendants of genetically engineered super-men from Nazi Germany.

Just read the blog entry. Is there any actual evidence this guy's father was actually a Nazi? With as much detail as it provided, anyone could have made up that story and thrown together the Fox News / Nazi propaganda comparison. It reminds me of one of the bullshit conservative chain emails Factcheck is always picking apart and that I occasionally get copied on by the more gullible members of my family.

While I'm asking questions, did that pic really come from CNN? Or did someone shop it and call it a CNN pic to portray CNN is a propaganda machine for the Left? If it DID come from CNN then I have to wonder if some of the claims against CNN as the liberal counterpoint to Fox News might be true.

I think it's a basically genuine photo, not 'Shopped except (probably) for the insertion of identifying text (and possbibly by removal of the crowd, though that may have been done by simply lowering the house lights during her acceptance screech).

Looking at this other pic, I have to agree the lightning s is probably a coincidence. Friggin' ironic, though.

Agreed. I don't think the GOP (consciously) intended for their show to look like a Nuremberg Rally.

But then Palin called attention to the accidental lightning-bolt "S" by giving a fair imitation of a Nazi salute. (Damn, I'm glad she's stupid!)

I am not. And when she gets elected in 2012, I'll sure regret her being stupid even more...

Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there – on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.
Carl Sagan - 1996
