Not good news. I hope Stephen recovers and is able to continue his work of adding daily to humanity's understanding of the blazing glories in the darkness around us.
For someone who, on a good day, can barely hold up his own head, Hawking has a lot of scientists standing on his shoulders. What an incredible life, so far!

Good deal, full recovery? Don't you mean it looks like Hawking might get a few more years to sit in his wheelchair and slobber on himself? And then he will die.
All the hope in the world for the best and faith in modern medicine might get him a few more years of sitting in his chair at best, but he will die, and then the judgment.
Dear God I pray that even in his midnight hour that you might remove the blinders from Mr. Hawkings eyes that he might know your love and grace before his journey into eternity begins. It is in Jesus name that I ask things Father God, Amen.

Where he slobbers is immaterial. The fact that he's done something with his life, rather than waste it on imaginary beings is what's important. The best most of us can do is slobber on ourselves and do very little for the rest of the world.

Even from you, Bill, I did not expect such scumbaggery. Stephen Hawkins has been leading a fine life for many years, despite his handicaps. In particular, he's been contributing to the advancement of humanity and human knowledge, to a degree that neither you nor I can hope to match.
Shame on you, Bill for gleefully celebrating the medical problems of a better man than yourself. As for your even more gleeful hope of Hawking going to Hell, that simply makes me laugh at you.

In the Sermon on the Mount Jesus warned against hypocrisy in prayer:
"And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full."
Actually I think in context Jesus was concerned about one's motive when praying. At the time the religious authorities believed it was necessary to pray at specific times of the day, and would often make sure they were in large crowds of people when those times arose so that they could be seen and heard by all. Jesus did not approve of this.
Jesus also gave instructions on how not to pray:
"And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him."
Religious Authorities at the time believed that there was power in words and continous repetition and if you said a word often enough, then you could eventually own that object or claim that power for yourself. Jesus condemned this.
So as you can see I was not praying at a specific time, nor was I babbling on and on, nor was in a large crowd of people and I certainly wasn't trying to impress any man on this forum with my prayer. In fact throughout his life Jesus prayed in public and in private. I interrupt Jesus to be warning the apostles about hypocrisy in prayer rather then to ban any public prayer.

The dude said he is going to completely recover and that this was great. I simply had to bring him back into reality. I have seen this forum trash many of people on their deathbed who's work for humanity far out reaches yours, mine or Hawkings, so your compliant has fallen on deaf ears.

Sorry Bill I have trouble rooting for those "who work for humanity" by saying that I am going to rot for eternity in hellfire and who advocate violence against those who don't believe what they do.
I can't recall any SH quotes implying or hoping for you to suffer for all eternity or to wipe out the believers. Now if a scientist does those things let us know and we will spit on his grave on your behalf.
We are not gleeful at every deathbed for believers, just the really big scumbags. |

He will still have severe limitations (physically, if not mentally). Although I wouldn't put it so crudely, this much is true, and is neither a negative nor a positive statement. If this nonsense about Jehovah, the tribal war god, were true, then yes, he created us to live imperfect lives, slobber on ourselves, and he created some of us to be so blind as to reject him so that we can go to Hell so that believers who have the magic key to get in the special club have someone to look down on. |

We agree. All though I would say that "crudely" is in the eye of the beholder.

But you would blame those "who work for humanity" if you did reach hell at your end and no one had warned you of the coming danger ahead of time. It is not the fault of the one who has knowledge of the coming danger and gives you the warning if you choose to ignore it. But if they had the knowledge and just refused to warn you then you might have a beef. At that point, "Why didn't you warn me?" becomes a valid question.
