Link In one of the harshest statements from authorities since protests broke out after the June 12 election, Ayatollah Ahmed Khatami, a ranking cleric, said "Anyone who takes up arms to fight with the people, they are worthy of execution."
Those who disturbed the peace and destroyed public property were "at war with God" and should be "dealt with without mercy," he said Friday in a nationally televised sermon.

Well, we already knew it but it bears repeating; Islamic fundies are even bigger, festering assholes than the Christian version. Mostly, anyway. Now for some incredible reason, they are trying to destroy their Iranian citizenry and -- here's the funny/insane part -- blame it on Obama.
Fuck these Koran-spewing shitheads and all that they stand for. It is they who are bringing their nation down -- anybody out there still wanna live in a theocracy?

Well... let's look at the bright side of it. There is always a good chance that the protesters will tire and that the issue will slowly die down. By helping racking up the pressure, the Ayatollah is helping insuring that the issue is not going to go away until solved one way or the other. Either an upheaval against the regime or a violent repression that might plant the seeds for a new revolution down the line.
This, ultimately, might be helping Democracy coming to Iran... |
Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there – on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam. If it is a crime against god, maybe they should let their god deal with it. Or is Allah such a weak god that he can't do anything? Well, it's either that, or he does not exist. |
