Junk food even has negative impact on cockroaches

by Chris in Paris on 7/04/2009 12:28:00 AM

Attorneys for the junk food industry have suggested that the tests were unfair and a distortion of the true nutritional value they provide to humans and cockroaches alike. Not really, but it wouldn't surprise anyone if they did. LiveScience:

Group with carbohydrate added to protein source did better than that with protein source alone? Not so much an indictment of junk food, more analagous to Atkins or South Beach Diet.

I'd like to see a study where they fed the cockroaches nothing but Cheetos. Do their insides glow in the dark at the end of the study?

Heh, being as how they're cockroachs and as such are virtually indestuructable as a species, if the study goes long enough, they'll thrive on them. Then the earth will soon suffer a dearth of Cheetos.

Hmm, that might not be such a bad thing*.

*from the human health standpoint, limiting consideration only to the "dearth of Cheetos" part, while ignoring the part about cockroaches thriving.
