This little guy is Urspelerpes brucei, the only species in the genus, Urspelerpes.

Recently discovered in South Carolina and in Georgia, the tiny amphibian, like others in the family Plethodontidae, it has no lungs. It absorbs oxygen through its skin and mouth.

Well, so much for the "Mouth-Breather" Scattershot. I'll add, though, that many fish living in oxygen-poor waters breath air through through the roofs of their mouths, notably the Electric Eels and their relatives.

Good article and photos, and Plethodontidae was one of my several references.

But fear not, or be very afraid, your choice, I have other 'Shots loaded in the cylinder.

Ah, jeeze, Fil! I'd hoped to delight you with something you might have missed (should'a known better), not spoil one of your Scattershots! Why not post your stuff anyway, and/or right here?

No loss, really. It needed polish yet and I was considering another direction for it, anyway. We'll see....

And I am delighted by the photos of U. brucei! I hadn't seen those before -- cute, little dude & dudette, aren't they?

Yes, they are! And I'll bet they make quiet neighbors, unlike come frogs I could name.
