The shore of this lake has the lowest land surface elevation on the continent upon which it rests.

All questions below must be answered simultaneously.

1. What continent is this?

2. What's the name of the lake, what's its elevation, and in what country is it located?

1. South America

2. Laguna del Carbón, 105m below sea level, Argentina.

Since it didn't look anything like Death Valley or the Dead Sea, I knew I only had five other continents to Google. Tried Australia first. South America was my second search.

Edited to add that I just noticed that you titled this "Lowdown 1." I hope I didn't just ruin "Lowdown 2" or "Lowdown 3."

Congrats, Dave, you got it all right!

Don't worry, I probably ruined all the other low elevation problems simply by doing the first. Putting "1" after the name was kind of an afterthought, just in case I might want to try again. Obviously, these would only get easier as more and more are solved, given the limited number of continents.

And you solved this just about the way I expected someone to. Real work, but straightforward. The previous puzzle, "Desolation Row," turns out either to be much harder, or much less interesting.
